Hambagu @ Hamburg 2910, KITTE Hakata, Fukuoka
A new hambagu store just opened not long ago in the premises within the Hakata station area. And seeing that it has been some time since I had this meaty treat, I think it should give this a go. And a big go it was. Hamburg 2910, where the numbers are pronounced as "nikuju", means meat juice. Which is quite an interesting choice of a name, considering the number combinations. Having said that, the name does provide a correct representation on what is in store.
Even the plastic display looks good. And being Japan, illustrations do not vary. |
There are various sauces and combinations that you can pick. However, I am a traditionalist, and as such, I picked the classic demi glace which is the common condiment for such a meaty dish. it should be noted that the price of the dish will depend on the type of sauce that you select. For this, my meal stands at 1628, which includes a side of soup, white rice, corn and pasta. I am not sure why pasta is included here and I feel like we could go away with it. But I was wrong, and more on that later. it should be noted as well that each patty would need about 15 minutes to cook.
Giving the soup while waiting for the food is a good call. |
So if you are under a tight schedule, then perhaps this is something you may need to omit. Or go elsewhere. But if you do have the time, then your patience will be rewarded. While waiting, the soup is given first so it was a good reprieve. The soup was a chicken and egg soup which was actually pretty comforting and slightly sweet.
Ready ti dig in! |
The hambagu was just sheer perfection. Served on a hot plate, the sizzle really made my blood boil and made me seriously look forward to the meal that I was about to chow down. And the description that there will be meat juices is not some gimmick too.
It so good it shines! |
Once I poked my chopstick into the patty, juices literally start to pour out like a waterfall. The scent of savoury goodness start to permeate the air and my appetite was ready for the taking. The meat was grainy but you can still feel the bite of the mince. This is not some ready made patty you get from your usual famiresu by the street. Then again, this is almost double the price of my Gusto meal. As such, this high quality is sort of expected.
Lord have mercy! |
The sauce that covered the patty was also something I really enjoyed. It was silky, slightly sweet and complimented the deep flavours that the patty provided. The juice from the meat also dilute it somewhat, giving it a more runny texture as you go along. The sauce combined with the meat juices were so good, I started to scoop and gobble it down like some form of mutated soup. And this is where the pasta came in. It was the right carb to wipe every drop clean, and I started slurping as though it was a bowl of tan tan men. What a savage have I become!
Front if the house. I am definitely coming again! |
Despite being such a simple meal, it really exceeded my expectations. Granted, it is a bit expensive for a patty made of mince. However, it is very likely I will visit this place again if I want a special treat or a burger alternative that does not come with bread. If you fancy a go, it is located at the 9th Floor of the KITTE Mall within the Hakata station area, just above the Uniqlo. You can't miss it.
