Breakfast @ Heritage Kopitiam, Subang Jaya, Selangor

There is nothing like the classics. And when all of them are all in one spot, now that is the recipe for some serious eating! With the recent wave of retro-modern dining in these parts, a few key players have started in making their presence felt. One of which is Heritage Kopitiam.

Old school!

Like the same suggest, Heritage Kopitiam is a coffee shop that puts a great emphasis in providing a classic and local feel. And this is prevalent in their menu and their decor. The place really felt like a time warp, with a list of dishes that have all the local classics. Very old school indeed.

Look at the choices!

So if you somehow are in a bind with your friends when it comes to deciding what to eat? This place has got your covered! Spicy? Rice dishes? Noodles? Not into chillies? There is something for everyone, literally.

What a selection!

I went with my folks and their friends for this weekend breakfast. With my impending return to Japan happening very soon, I have decided to turn up the heat once more with some curry cheong fun which stood at a modest RM5.30. And soon enough, everyone's orders have arrived on our table. Despite the crowd, it was pretty fast.

Glorious

Without much hesitation, I went down for my first bite. And almost immediately, I was hit with a good shot of nostalgia. The spicy gravy played very well with the bouncy rice noodles. It had a kick but still relatively mild. The curry spices were pretty strong though, with some earthy elements and a hint of sweetness. With a scattering of fried onion bits and sesame seeds, it provided an extra dimension in terms of texture. This was very enjoyable.

This is rather generous!

Hefty!

However, if noodles are more of your thing, the dry kon lo noodles are not bad either. It is relatively simple and nothing to shout about. Despite that, it is is a plate of simple things done right. the soy based sauce gave a sweet and salty profile to the overall plate, while a good helping of the aforementioned curry gravy and sambal added a kick to the overall plate. A generous helping of toppings too made this relatively humble dish into something that is really filling. One plate stands at RM9.30.

The original classic

And being a kopitiam, it just makes sense to have a good cuppa while having everything down. Standing at RM 3 for a large, it was what a good coffee needs to taste like. Rich, slightly earthy and easy on the mouthfeel, this was what I look for in terms of classic kopitiam style coffee. There are other places that does it better, but please do not take this as a knock. It is still pretty good.

The front of the house.

Overall, this is a place worth reckoning. The food is great at affordable prices, the atmosphere is homely and everything is what you would expect from a classic Malaysian style Chinese kopitiam. This really invoked some old childhood memories, and I hope to pay a revisit when I am back in the country in the immediate future. There are other branches in the Klang Valley. However, if you would like to visit the outlet that I went to in Subang, the address is as follows:

155, Jln SS19/6U, Ss 19, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia
