Home Style Chinese Dinner @ Dragon House, USJ 14, Subang Jaya

It has been too long since I had made a tai chao post. And this takes the biscuit!

A sneak peak inside

Dragon House is a humble, unpretentious and simple. But the food quality is spectacular and the service is great. Located deep within the Subang suburban area, this establishment prepares classic Chinese style dishes and alot of other goodies. This place is relatively new and it is a bit of a local find, seeing its location. But the minor effort will pay dividends, especially if you consider yourself a budget gourmet hunter.

Colourful

For my first visit, I had my cousins round for dinner and we had a delicious meal for 8 people. The first dish that came was a Thai style snail dish which was light, zesty and a little spicy. A good start to get the appetite going.

Boil boil boil!

The chilli trail continued as we ordered a claypot grouper curry dish which was also well executed. Creamy, thick and silky, the gravy was well balanced and had the right amount of heat. This place was also pretty generous with the fish.

Some serious good eats here

We also ordered the signature pork chops, which was a noteworthy dish to order. The sauce is syrupy and tangy. I reckon they may have use some plum sauce in it. The pork was well seasoned and very fresh. Kudos to the chef for this. The coriander to me was a nice touch, as it is able to cut through the richness of the meat when you have it together.

This was magical!

The came the sleeper hit, which was tofu with pickled veggies. It sounds so unassuming but this was a torrent of flavour. The tofu was silky and firm and had a lot of flavour. I suspect some eggs are included in the process. The pickled veggies gave a tangy kick and a vibrant change in terms of texture. Touches of green onions and chilli added another dimension in terms of texture and flavour.  And the sauce that came with it was just magical. I have no idea what they have done to soy sauce that made it taste so good. Most probably a chef's secret.

Classic

To round off the meal, we ordered steamed fish in bean sauce. Simple and effective, this is a classic dish to order in most Chinese eating outlets.

The full ensemble.

I was told by the owner that everything is made on site. From stocks and tofu, the chefs have put alot of attention to detail and quality. With that kind of attention, even the simplest of dishes will be awesome. Which it did. It was so good in fact, I feel that one visit will not do this place justice and decided to have another meal here with some family friends before penning this down.

Crunch!

For the second visit, we ordered the claypot curry and the pork chops again, as they were real star makers during the previous visit. We did order some new dishes. One of which is the salted egg fried squid. That description itself just explained what it will be like. Sweet, salty, spicy, crunchy and simply indulgent. My doctor would not be very happy of my food choices, but heck, the gym is open on most days right?

Delicate and smooth...

We ordered another tofu dish, and this time is the mushroom sauce variant. I like this one as well, as the sauce was smooth and rich, and just loaded with various types of mushrooms. Just simple, but gorgeous. It is not as "in your face" as the pickled veggie variant, but still thoroughly enjoyable. We also ordered a bowl of spinach soup, which helped to round out the meal this time. I really liked this alot. It was a soup and a vegetable dish all in one, a two hit combination.

Add more kick to your meal with this bad boy

And speaking of combinations, the establishment also prepares its own in house chilli shrimp topping. A staple in pan mee places, which it also serves, this is a great condiment for any dish that they have. And if your orders exceed RM100, you get a bottle for free!

Another angle

I think after reading what I have mentioned above, it is pretty obvious this gets a huge thumbs up for me.  The food quality is outstanding and the the prices are relatively reasonable. The most expensive dish that we had was the claypot grouper, and that was about RM35. Most dishes hover around the RM15-20.

Front of the house.

If you are here with friends and family, I would recommend having a good sit down meal with a few dishes and rice. If you are by yourself however, there are noodle dishes in store. But that will be a topic for another day. Fancy a go? The address is as follows:

V1-00-12, Goodyear Court 9, Usj 14, 47630 Subang Jaya, Selangor

PS: Thank you Nick for the great meals so far. Kudos to the chef. If you are reading this, do not worry. I will probably be visiting some time soon!
