Clam Noodles @ Wu Li Tou Drunken Clam Noodles, Kuala Lumpur

If you like your noodle experience extra boozy, then this is the place to be. And if you like lots of seafood, then this option will give you that two hit combo that you are looking for. Wu Li Tou Drunken Clam Noodle (无厘头啦啦米粉 ) is a relatively new establishment that popped up in the bustling street food hub of Petaling Street. And seeing it was a place that I have not tried before, me and a friend have decided to give it a go.

Oh whats this?

As clam noodles was what is provided for in its name, it would only make sense if we ordered that. With that in mind, we got a spicy dry one and of course, the soupy drunken clam noodle. Both standing at RM22, it seems a bit steep. However, once the noodles arrived, that price is totally justified.

The main moneymaker

Both dry noodles and and the soupy version was just loaded with clams. There were so much, you might think that there was an excavation in the depths of the ocean! It was that generous.  Since clams are quite expensive, that price tag now seems totally justified. Both noodles were also incredibly tasty and packed a lot of punch.

Look at that!

We shall first start with the namesake dish. The soup was spicy and hearty. Loaded with ginger and chilli, it gave on a powerful punch in terms of taste. And being spiked with Chinese cooking wine, it gave of a tart but yet soulful after taste. Those elements are very complimentary to seafood in general, which allow the clams to really taste incredible. The noodle of choice is bihun rice noodles. Well, that is the only option. Then again, such noodles will work better compared to your other thick yellow noodles, or god forbid, kuey teow.

Spicy!

The dry noodles were no slouch either. Also coming in the form of bihun, this was slathered with a spicy sauce, which tasted like a combination of kam heong spices and a sambal paste. It had a more earthy feel and of course, way spicier that it soupy cousin. The clams here have a more pungent kick, as the chillies from the ingredients provided a bolder experience, compared to the soupy type, which helps compliment the taste of the clams. Still, this was also pretty incredible and both dishes have their own strengths and weaknesses. It will all boil down to your preference on that day to be honest.

Front of the house

So if you are in this area and you are looking for some good grub to chow on, or you are a seasoned local that wants to try something different, then the clams and noodles would probably sort you out just fine.
