Braised Pork Platter @ Big Tree, Pasar Pinji, Ipoh

When people talk about this place, the first thing that comes to mind is yong tau fu. And yeap, I have been here before for that. Want to know about my experience then? Then click here to know more. Not to spoil it for you guys, but I had better elsewhere. So what is a dude got to do then for breakfast? Eat something else! And when that something else is porky, fatty, and loaded in flavour, you know you got a winner!

Look at the display!

And with that intense aroma we spotted a stall that sells amazing braised pork. This stall is located at the back end of the premises and its one of those hole in the wall types. So much so, that it does not have a name! But fortunately it is located in an area that is synonymous with food.  If you can smell an intense aroma of soy and garlic in the air, then you are at the right spot.

A gorgeous plate of goodies.

As there are so many things to try, we decided to get a mix platter which just stood for RM10! What a bargain! So, how does it taste? Amazing, truly.

The pork pieces were well marinated. You can tell it was cooked for hours. With the flavour of all spice and soy permeating into every corner of each delectable and meaty mouthful, this was a real treat. And being a mix platter, organ meat is also served. Might as well go all the way right?
Hope you are not squeamish.

The tripe was a chewy treat as I would have expected and the ear had a more distinctive crunch due to the cartilage. But my favourite was the intestines. With the juices and the braising liquid stuck in between, each bite causes a torrent of flavour just coming right out. If you are a fan of BKT, then this will really hit the spot.

Spicy...

If you like a bit of heat into your meal, I strongly recommend that you dip your porky goodies into the chilli sauce that comes with it. More of chilli oil than that of a sauce, it adds  that edge into the overall meal, making it even more interesting. On a side note, I actually liked the coriander that came with it, as the flavour cuts through all that savoury profile and evens out the dish. Some people hate coriander, but then that is a topic for another day.

Another angle of this humble outlet.

Simple but sinful, this was to me a very gorgeous breakfast. Well, just like some people like bacon in the morning, this is no different. Unless you include organ meat being different. Long story short, I will be back for more. Fancy a go? Then the address is as follows:

Off Jalan Pasir Pinji Jalan King, Ipoh 31650, Malaysia
