Brunch @ New Chapter, Calvary Convention Centre, Bukit Jalil
Sweet, chic, and simple at the same time, The New Chapter has been making headway in the cafe stomping scene for some time. And finally, I stopped there for brunch.
Cozy |
Located at the Calvary Convention Centre, it is not the most convenient of spaces. But many people say the trouble is worth it. Well, to a certain extent it does. The area is serene and spacious, save for the other patrons that are in the premises. A good thing though, an empty cafe is usually not a good sign. My family went there for brunch, under my brother's recommendation.
A great meat free alternative |
For my side I had a mushroom scotch egg. It was done really well and caught me by surprise. The egg was still a bit runny while the outer crust is not too burnt. The mushroom mince was really intense, like having a mushroom paste slathered onto an egg and deep fried. I feel like they have added some oats or barley to bind the whole thing together, as the texture is very similar to sausage stuffing. Flavourwise, it was strong and woody, and paired well with the egg. A great meat alternative, if you ask me. And very filling. This behemoth stands at RM23. Real value I feel.
This was very filling |
My mum had a dish called Morning Daisy. It is essentially a egg sandwich croissant with waffle fries and a salad. It is simple, but is really good too. The fries were fried to perfection, and it was not too greasy and has a decent crunch factor. It was seasoned with come cajun spices to I reckon. The croissant had a flaky exterior and a sweet and buttery aftertaste. Eggs were executed well. And if you like your eggs scrambled, then you will get a multi pronged experience in this one. A side salad to balance things out, and you get a filling meal. This was great value too, as it stood at RM17
At least my mum knows he's having his fruits. |
My brother went for something more simple granola bowl called the Owlsome Granola. It is essentially granola with fruit and yogurt. But you cannot deny that it looks real pretty. This stood for RM 16.
Hello darkness, we meet again. |
Of course you cannot have brunch without coffee. The americano, or long black in some cases is decent. But I have better elsewhere. Still not bad though and would have another cup in the near future. A hot cup costs RM7. Standard price really.
Men at work |
So here is a confession, I have never thought of coming here because I thought it was all hype and food is there for Instagram influencers. But the place is really comforting and the decor pleases the eyes. Also if you may have notice, owl motifs are everywhere. This is because this was set up by the people behind the Owls Cafe. Pretty neat huh?
The waiting area. Glad to see no one is here though. Comes to show how fast the service is. |
The food is generally good, service is quick and everything is of good quality. Does it live up to the hype? To a certain extent, it does. And they have an array of vegetarian options, so for you non-carnivores, this place will take care of you. In fact, our entire meal here was meat free.
A group of old timers catching up on good times. |
This is a very popular date spot, and as such you will see many couples here. But many families hang out too. So if you want to impress your future spouse, or just want to catch up with your cousins, why not make the extra effort to come to this side of Bukit Jalil for some grub? The address is as follows:
Calvary Convention Centre, 1, Jalan Jalil Perkasa 1, Bukit Jalil, 57100 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur
Front of the house. |
