Home Style Chinese Dinner@ San Ge Restaurant, USJ 1

Tired of  restaurant grub and want something more simple, unpretentious but still gravely satisfying? Then this post has got you covered.

A peek inside

Hidden away in USJ 1, among all places, is San Ge. Literally translated as brother no 3, this place does live up to its name somewhat. Homecooked style Chinese meals are the name of the game. And with such establishments, main stays are meat and veggie dishes, that are accompanied with rice. There are noodle dishes as well. But that will be an agenda for another day.

Like most tai chao places, this place is simple and spartan. Well, the main focus is the food. As long its clean and service is quick, alot of things on decor is secondary.

Golden

The first dish that came to the table was the pumpkin sauce chicken. This was quite the dish. the pumpkin sauce reminded me of salted egg sauce. Salty, sweet and a bit spicy, it has alot of elements going on and about. Even if you do not like pumpkin, you would love this. There is a strong presence of garlic and chillies that tempers the sweetness profile of the pumpkin. The chicken was deep fried before being enveloped with the sauce and the combination of saucy and crunch worked well. This was absolute gold.

This caught me by surprise

Another dish that came soon after was their home made tofu and fish cake dish. Both tofu and fish cake were made in house and it shows. There was no artificial taste in the fish cake, which you usually get from store bought stuff. It was fresh and you can really feel the bits of fish. It is not too bouncy as well, which is a good sign as a texture too buoyant means there are additives. The tofu is the standard egg tofu yo can get in most places. Despite that, it was a comforting dish.

Simple...but still good though. Preferred the ones we make at home

Next was the soy sauce pork belly. It was a decent dish, and the amount of pork was pretty generous. However, I have to say my father's version tasted much better and is something that usually appears on our dining table. it is still a decent dish and probably worth ordering for others. But perhaps we will give it a pass the next time.

Gotta get some greens right?

Of course, we would need to get some veggies on tow. We got ourselves some mustard greens fried in garlic. Simple and basic, its the usual fare from such places like this.

Pics on the wall if you find a hard time deciding

The food is relatively simple and no frills. But this is what a tai chao should be. A simple and inviting local establishment to fuel the night. Despite that, the pumpkin sauce chicken and the fish cakes really deserves a special mention. The  overall meal was quite affordable too, standing at RM77 for 4 people, which includes rice. So if you are in the area, it is something worth trying. Fancy a go? Then the address is as follows:

38, Jalan USJ 1/2a, Usj 1, 47600 Subang Jaya, Selangor
