Food Court Tour @ New Delica Food Street, Damen Mall, USJ 1

Porky fans rejoice, as we now embark on another Chinese style food court tour. And this time, it is a bit closer to where I live.

A peek into the interior. Very clean and tidy.

Located in DaMen Mall in USJ 1, New Delica Food Street is a food court located next the the grocery in the mall. Specialising in Chinese hawker style delights, there is alot to choose from. The usual suspects like char kuey teow and bak kut teh are present, and some odd selections are in store too. And being such a vast food court, it is not possible to cover most things in one sitting.

Buzz buzz

The way you sort your food out is quite simple. Firstly, you place your order at a stall that you have narrowed down. Once they have taken your order and made your payment, the staff will give you a UFO call buzzer. The buzzer will let you know when your meal is ready and you collect it at the counter.

Simple but delicious. Deserves a second order.

For my first visit, I went to the place that had the most attention, which was the tai chao stall. The Hokkien style noodles are their main money maker, but I personally prefer their Cantonese style Yee Mee. And this is a different take altogether. Unlike the crispy version, the noodles here are soft and chewy to the touch. The sauce is rich and light at the same time and a lot of ingredients are in this great plate.

Another star winner here.

If you want something with a little more wok hei, then char kuey teow is your best bet. The smoky flavour is very distinct and the aroma comes in the truckload. And they do not skimp on the ingredients as well, with prawns and beans sprouts, it is a decent plate of fried rice noodles. The noodles are made to order, ensuring freshness. A not so saucy option if you would like to try something else.

Slurp!

How about rice dishes? The head to the bak kut teh stall for something more substantial. This is one of my favourite stalls here. The broth is strong yet comforting. The aroma of cinnamon and star anise really comes through  and there is alot of ingredients inside one claypot. If you are a fan of organ meat, then this will tick that fandom just right. The rice is no slouch either. Flavoured with garlic oil, it was a real compliment to the broth and rounds out a meal well.

This is too indulgent.

And for something unique, why not try cheese pork noodles? Yeap, the soup in here is spiked with cheese! This was very rich and dense. I suspect it to be those cheddar slices included into the broth, but I may be wrong. It has a milky consistency and has an aftertaste akin to an alfredo. The soup is then topped of with fried pork fat bits. A heart patient's nightmare indeed.

Check out that filling!

The ingredients are also bountiful. There is alot of pork mince in one bowl and there is also meat stuffed fish balls. This was a flavour explosion.

Something for your fish lovers here.

There are other non pork focused dishes as well, if swine is not your fancy. The fish head noodles here are pretty decent and will warm you up just fine. This is especially so if it is raining. The soup is zesty as it is flavoured with pickled vegetables, tomatoes and ginger. The fish provided is also very generous.

Another view of the area, taken from a not so crowded day.

Of course, being a food court in a mall, it is more comfortable than the usual road side stalls which you get these kind of treats. And this would also mean a more premium price. Noodle dishes do range from RM9 to Rm 15, and the bak kut teh was for RM15 just for the broth and meat. But every dish I had so far has been worth it. Well, at least that is what my stomach says. My arteries might pay a different price though. Well, at least my gym membership is still valid. Damn those New Year resolutioners though. But I digress.

The entrance.

If you are within the area, I strongly urge you to try the place out. There are also many stalls I have yet tried. Hopefully I am able to conquer the rest pretty soon. Fancy a go? The address is as follows:

Damen Mall, No 1, Persiaran Kewajipan, Usj 1, 47600 Subang Jaya, Selangor
