Wan Tan Mee @ 66 Corner, Gohtong Jaya, Genting Highlands

Wanting a place to chow down but refraining from the overpriced restaurants in Genting? Then Gohtong Jaya has the thing for you. For my first time there, wan tan me is on the menu.

A hidden haven

Located close the the hillside resort, Gohtong Jaya is a small row of shops that has the standard unassuming look you would get in a shopping street or business district. Yet, this has been a safe haven for people on a budget and it is starting to obtain a reputation of providing good eats at good prices. One of which is 66 Corner.

A messy bowl. Messy, but still good.

Famed for its evening steamboat menu, its food items are quite good too. With various noodles in store, I opted for some good old fashion wan tan mee as recommended by my brother. You can get the standard fare of wan tan dumplings and noodles.

But where is the fun in that? As this place is famed for its roast pork, extra char siew and additional siew yoke is added into my bowl. A carnivore's dream it indeed was and both pork toppings were superb. .

Ms Piggy is ready for the close up.

The char siew was sweet and has a light flavour. A slightly smoky after taste followed after each bite. Delicious indeed. The siew yoke was the perfect tag team partner. Being more on the savoury side, it gave a contrast of flavour and texture. The skin was crispy and provides for an excellent bite. Both the char siew and siew yoke were fatty on the inside and has a springy texture. Tender and well seasoned, the sauce from the noodles serves as an exclamation point, with the sweet black sauce complimented the meat toppings.

Noodles! Glorious noodles!

The sauce brought all the elements together. Sweet and meaty, I am not surprised if it was flavoured with lard. It held on to the noodles like a jealous lover and each strant had alot of flavour. However, the wan tans them selves are quite average. The meat is alright, but it was very little and the real star of the show was the pork toppings. Still with a RM9.50 price tag I really cannot complain.

Check out all the meat options.

Overall, this was a good bowl of noodles. A bit far of the beaten track just for lunch. However, If you would be in the area and want to avoid casino food or chain grubs that are more expensive there than anywhere else, 66 Corner has got you covered. Fancy a visit? The address is as follows:

No.46, Jalan Jati 1, Taman Gotong Jaya
69000 Bentong
