Brunch @ Skinny Dip Cafe, Kepong, Kuala Lumpur
One of my good friends back in high school has opened a cafe some time ago. And despite being there a few times, I finally took the effort to feature it in the blog. Shout out to David Phoon and Skinny Dip Cafe!
Now with that disclosure aside, rest assured this will be an unbiased post.
The front of the cafe bar |
Skinny Dip Cafe is tucked away in the streets of Medan Putra Business Centre and has been around for over a year already. Known for its coffee and cakes, the place is also a popular spot for some light eats and complete meals. Since it was a free weekend that time, we thought it would be nice to have a mini reunion at the Cafe.
A real loaded plate. |
Of course being brunch, my other friend ordered a western style big breakfast. Loaded with all the right elements, it was a plate of the usual suspects of egg, sausages and all the trimmings. Simple and filling, it was a fine way to fit the brunch criteria.
Time to chow! |
As I was starting to get a bit peckish, the cheeseburger was my go to option. And I would like to say it was done well. The beef was chewy and juicy and had balanced seasoning. Fresh and full of flavour, this is definitely not something store bought. A fried egg and some mushrooms in the burger provided more depth of texture and flavour. And the sauce inside complimented it all and became the glue that combined all the elements together.
A close up worthy of a king. |
Unlike the usual slice, shredded cheese was used instead. It made for a messy bite, but you cannot be to refined in eating a burger right? A great specimen.
This cup is way too pretty to be messed up. I still need my java fix though. |
Being brunch, you need to have some coffee. And I have to say I really like the coffee here. The usual players are on the menu, like the common americano, cappuccino and latte. If you would like to have something different though, you can opt for the green tea latte. And over here, they take their coffee art very seriously.
A flavour conundrum |
Having some more room to fill, we opted for a sweet and salty combo of bacon and waffles, which was topped with ice cream. Hot and cold meets sweet and savoury. The items molded together well, although I would prefer to have my bacon being actual pork bacon than turkey bacon. Well, this is to be expected as this is a pork free environment. So to all my Muslim friends, rest assured you will be taken cared off over here.
More shots of the interior. Note the cake display. |
The prices here are fairly reasonable, with mains ranging from RM20 to RM 30 and hot drinks around RM 7 onwards. And the decor is fun and inviting. Did I mention that the cakes are delicious? I was considering getting a slice, but we were pretty full in the end. That would be for another day I guess.
Thank you David for your hospitality. Till we meet again. |
A comforting meal was further complimented with a great catching up session with a group of bros. Unpretentious and fun, this is a cafe that is suitable for everyone. Wanna give this a go? Here is the address:
