Home Style Chinese Dinner @ XO Cuisine Restaurant, USJ 21, Subang Jaya
In the mood for some simple rice and grub which is reasonably priced? Then why not try this local haunt that satisfies?
XO Cuisine Restaurant is tucked away in the USJ 21 business district and serves classic "tai chao" dishes. Famous for its fish head rice noodles, which we will tackle on another date, I was having the munchies for some good old rice. You cannot blame the Asian in me right?
A sneak peek inside. At first glance you can already see that families patronise the place. |
A drive by later, we arrived at XO Cuisine. Seeing that some of their dishes do use the trademark cognac, its no surprise that they used that as its name. The establishment is located deep in the a residential area so may be out of the radar for most people. Lucky for me it was my residential area.
Do not worry if you are not sure what to order, the menu has pictures |
A modest place with the usual set up you get in a Chinese tai chao place, the food are reasonably priced and you get the usual suspects of sweet and sour pork, spare ribs and steamed seafood. For this time around, we ordered a serving of mapo tofu, bitter gourd soup, fried kai lan aka chinese brocolli, and a personal favourite, san pei zhi, which translates to three cup chicken.
A real motherload! |
We were pleasantly surprised with the portions that came forth. The soup came in a large bowl , and is loaded with pork and veggies, and of course, the aforementioned bitter gourd. Laced with egg, the soup was light yet filling. The pork pieces played well and the bitter gourd did not overpower. Some people may not like this peculiar vegetable, but then this soup might convert you. That and probably salted egg bitter gourd, but I digress. This came at a very affordable price of RM10.00.
This is some soul food right here. |
Without going off topic, the mapo tofu was also well done. With alot of pickles and chilli, it was smoky and deep but not too fiery. This dish was so easy to take down. So easy to the point, you do not even have to chew beforehand. Everything was minced down so well, that it was something you can just gulp down. But when eaten with rice, it felt like a thick zesty sauce that just envelops the carbs well. Props to the chef. This serving was for RM13.00 only.
Sizzling on arrival! |
The main event was for sure the three cup chicken. A variation of what I used to have, the chicken was deep fried first before it was placed in the earthen ware. The sticky and sweet sauce coated the meat well and was a n explosive flavour. However, the flavour was more to marmite chicken rather than the usual soy, shaoxing and sesame flavour combo I know. But I was just nitpicking. A very well executed chicken dish and an affodable one at that (RM18.00!!!) this is probably something I will eat again.
Mum says I need to eat my veggies...so... |
Well the kai lan was there as we need greens to complete the meal. Stir fried veggies are still stir fried veggies. This plate was RM10.00.
Leaving very satisfied and without a dent on the wallet at that, this warrants a revisit. Homely and honest, the food here needs a special mention. If you would like to come over, the address is as follows:
