Lunch @ Good Friends Cafe , SS15, Subang Jaya
Simple yet fun, Good Friends Cafe is a popular lunch place which I myself occasionally visit to have some comforting grub on the weekends. And this time, I brought my parents around as they have never tried it before.

Being called Good Friends is not a gimmick and does resonate a friendly vibe. There is a kids corner and board games are aplenty so you can spend some quality time with the people you are with. That is all fun and dandy, but how about the food?
Alot of umph in this bowl |
The pumpkin soup that was served was good, and to me a well executed dish. Warming and deep, it has a flavour as what a good pumpkin soup should have. The sweetness of pumpkin was balanced with a savouriness which I feel is from garlic and butter. Simple but comforting at the same time, this bowl was for RM10.00.
A surprising explosion of flavours here. |
The chicken pesto sandwich that came was done well. The pesto was fresh and had a lot of herby and vibrant flavour. Definitely not from a can. The chicken was grilled evenly and was juicy and supple. The bread that we chose was focacia and had more herb flavours in it. My father gave his seal of approval and was also pleased that a sandwich was that substantial. This bad boy was RM20.00 a pop.
Kiss the diet goodbye... |
Mum on the other hand had something different, which was fried chicken and waffles. A favourite of mine when I come over, the chicken tasted abit like Japanese karaage. The chicken works well with the sweet maple syrup that comes with it, which is a different take to the usual ketchup of chilli sauce. The waffles are dense and thick, which is actually alright considering that it is the main carbohydrate for a meal. I like sweet and fluffy waffles but that would be more suited for breakfast. This great dish was also RM20.00
A real moneymaker here. |
As for me, I had the cheese burger. Done well, this is what a burger should be and feel like. The two beef patties that were provided were juicy, well seasoned and a joy to chow down into. It had a crunchy exterior and yet, it was not burnt. Props to the chef. Loaded with caramelised onions and cheese, sauces were not necessary. A real burger that was worth having. And it stood for RM32.00, which was actually a good deal as it came with fries, a salad and a lemonade to boot.
Being a cafe, its coffee needs to be taken into consideration as well. Coffee wise, I am a patron of the old school. No sugar, no milk, no gimmicks. So the standard black was the only way to go. And it was decent. A cup was RM8.00 which is more or less the standard price for cafe coffees.
A family celebrating a kids birthday. A warming scene. |
When we were there, the crowd was at full swing, with teenagers playing checkers and family celebrating birthdays. It was noisy, in a good way. You can feel like there is alot of activity and you do not mind being in the middle of it all. Its cozy and vibrant and one of the better cafes in Subang. They have a good variety of cakes as well. But I was pretty satisfied with the burger and gave the cakes a pass.
