Late Night Vegetarian @ In Vege Cafe, Triang, Pahang

After doing the occasional stock check, I realised there is an abundance of meat dishes mentioned, and in particular pork. So a thought came into my mind : vegetarians need to have some love too right? So say no more as the next place is great for everyone. Even the usual carnivore would find something to enjoy.

A very cozy place.

Located in Triang (among all places!), In Vege provides its patrons with a trendy and vibrant environment to enjoy vegetarian dishes. Although there are some in Klang Valley, there are few and far in between. Or maybe I have been looking at the wrong places. So if you have great veggie places, do let me know in the comments below and it might be featured in the Gourmand soon!

Simple but comforting.

We went there at about 9 pm, and were actually amazed as more and more people flock into the place after 10 pm and mostly are patrons that are in their 20s. The menu is quite extensive and a bit ambituous. I decided to order a few different dishes to sample.  First one was mushroom soup. The soup is simple yet great. Its creamy and has loads of fresh mushrooms. Rest assured that it did not feel like something that came off a can.

Not genuine tempura. Still good. No complaints here.

The second item we got was the tempura. Still fresh from my Japan trip, I can vouch that this is not tempura. But that does not mean it was not good. Leaning more to fritters, the batter is something similar the crust of fish and chips. Its crunchy and a bit fluffy. The cauliflower is a real gem in the whole basket, and the mushrooms were easy to take down. The fried broccoli felt abit out of place and my least favourite in the basket. However, a good starting point for meat eaters to slowly climb the ladder in terms of vegetable eating.

This pack some serious flavour and crunch.

The roti canai came later on. Just ordering for the heck of it, I was pleasantly surprised of what turned out. What looked like ordinary phrata was in fact similar to a flattened croissant. it was creamy, flaky, buttery and crunchy. Several elements all at one go. The addition of cheese was a nice touch, making it more than your usual flatbread. The sambal is of course vegetarian, so it will not taste like the one you will get in a mamak smothered with anchovies. Treat it as a chunky spicy sauce then you will go on just fine. The dhall that accompanied was quite good as well.

The golden sticks.

Then there were the "golden sticks". Luckily curiousity did not kill this cat. They were in fact fried tofu sticks and seasoned with allspice. It was also surprisingly tasty and would go down well as a bar snack. It would be amazing if I could guzzle down a Heineken at that point but the place does not sell beer.

Seems like there is a stage in the building.
It would be cool if there was a live show when I was there.

Overall its was a great late night meal. All of that, which includes the water chest nut drink was for only RM30.00! Great value and and great ambiance. Although it is unlikely that you will go to Triang just to chow on deep fried tofu pieces, do make the detour if you are nearby.
