Mala Pot @ Super Pot, Jalan Radin Bagus 3, Sri Petaling

With all these fiery posts, I think I am slowly turning into a sadist. But no pain no pleasure right? And if one of life simplest pleasures is good food, then fiery torture it will be!

Front of the house

Chinese food is usually not associated with heat and spice. Well unless you look to the mala (麻辣) style of cooking. And if you like your food with that numbing kick to the teeth, literally, then Super Pot is the place for you.

Choices, choices...

This fiery restaurant is located in the now very lively and happening town of Sri Petaling. Their concept is very simple. Get a bowl and pick what ever you like from their chiller and pass it to the counter for it to be weighed.  There is a huge variety of ingredients for you to pick and mix, from meat, seafood and fresh veggies. Although I have to admit the veggies are not that fresh, they are still edible though. A portion of meat is RM5.99 while a portion of veggies is RM3.99.

The carnivore corner

Once weighed, pick your style of cooking, from the chilli-free "home made sauce" , to the blazing hot 'Xtreme Spicy". I came here with my family and we had chosen a pot that is the chilli-free home made sauce, and the medium spicy "Spicy Dynamic sauce". Your bowl will then be sent to the kitchen for the final prep while you wait at the table. 15 minutes later, your dinner will be served. And when people describe it as a kick to the teeth,  they are not kidding.

Dinner is served

The Dynamic sauce was real smoky and real spicy, as expected. And being the mala dish that it is, you can really taste the copious amount of dried chillies and garlic in this monster. It is funnily enough, strangely addictive. The meat that we chose for this pot absorbed the spices well and was fun to eat, although it was a bit painful. This is some roller coaster. The veggies we picked however, did not transfer that flavour very well.

An explosion in a bowl

If you love chillies and dig hot Asian cuisines like Korean or Thai, then this is right up your alley. It was really spicy though, and I really cannot imagine myself going for the Xtreme Spicy. A good serving of nuts gave it a nice bite.

This was surprisingly tasty.

The home made sauce bowl should not be underestimated though. It was also packed with flavour. It had a deep yet tangy sauce, which I suspect comes from oyster sauce and a mushroom based seasoning.  Then again, we did picked alot of aromatic vegetables like mushrooms, taro and pumpkin. This paired well with the Dynamic sauce and was able to temper the heat a little. And in the end we left quite satisfied.

Their simple menu. Thats it!

Super Pot has a unique set up and concept. However, I do feel it was a bit expensive as our total bill reached to RM100, which includes drinks and rice. And for the ingredients that we were provided with, it was not cheap. Still, it was a fun experience and the place is generally quite cozy. Fancy a go? The address is as follows:
