Coffee @ Goemon Coffee, Jaya One, Petaling Jaya

Japan is one of the world's biggest coffee consumers and as such, has its own unique take on cafe culture. If you would like to try how it is like in a Japanese cafe, look no further than Goemon Coffee. Located in Jaya One, it has an interesting array of sweet treats to go with your java. Do take note that it is not as eccentric as a maid cafe as it is a legit coffee spot.

An interesting interior. Note the murals at the back.

For me, my usual approach in trying a new place is to have the Americano first. If the base is good, then the rest will follow suit. No frills and no gimmicks. Plain black is where it is at. And it was good. Not very strong,  it is quite balanced and has a crisp aftertaste. A good coffee in my book, although I would prefer it to be somewhat stronger. This cup was for RM7.

Dynamic duo over here.

As a Japanese cafe visit is not complete without Japanese treats, a cream dorayaki came alongside my coffee. A classic Japanese sweet treat, the cream filling adds a new edge to the traditional confectionery. The pancake exterior was fluffy yet bouncy at the same time. It provided some good texture and has a bite. This was good as if the outer shell was too soft, the bean filling will easy flow out once it is bitten down into.

This deserves a close up.

The bean paste interior was also done well. Not overly sweet, the paste was smooth and has a rich texture. If you are a fan of Chinese tou sar confections, then you will be an instant fan. It was a bit pricey though, as it was RM5 a pop. But hey, gotta indulge once in a while right?

A good coffee alternative.

If you are into something more nihon-orientated drink wise, then a matcha latte may be the right pick for you. Creamy and rich, this stood at a slightly more pricey tag of RM11.00.

Not from your local Family Mart.

And if you really want to try something very different, look no further than a dessert sandwich. If the English are famed for sandwiches and fruits and cream for tea, why not marry the two? Filled with strawberries, banana and kiwi, this sandwich combo has a price tag of RM12.00.

Front of the house.

A quaint place to get your caffeine on and to hang out with friends, this is a refreshing change of pace compared to your local Starbucks. Good coffee, tasty sweets and an interesting interior, do give this a try if you are up for something different. As mentioned above, this establishment is located in Jaya One and the specific location is as follows:

100.P1.13(B)
Level P1, Block J, The School Jaya One, No 72A, Jalan University,
46200 Petaling Jaya
