Roast Pork @ S'mores, Nexus, Bangsar South, Kuala Lumpur

Its crunch time!

Not a common phrase I would use to have a chow down on some roast pork. But this time, this was an exception.

What a well stocked bar!

It was one of those days where I was able to get to have some lunch outside the office on a working day and the Nexus is where it is at. Located in the new hip and happening place of Bangsar South (which is not actually in Bangsar), the area is filled with business complexes and restaurants. City staples like Pappa Rich and Souled Out have set up shop here. So, it was an interesting breath of fresh air when I sat down at S'Mores for the first time. They have other branches in Desa Park City and Tropicana City Mall too.

Time to attack!

The establishment has a very homely vibe to it and serves various types of comfort food with a porky twists. From burgers to nasi lemak, even the humble maggi goreng had the lard treatment. As it was a Friday afternoon after all, we were able to order from the lunch set menu. And oh boy what a menu it was. It was not difficult to choose as I dove straight into the roasted pork belly (RM20.80), which came with a side of soup of the day and a beer (which came in separately for RM8)

Just a gorgeous sight.

The pork belly was decadent and sinful. Its crackling skin was crunchy and had an amazing texture. Slightly salty but bursting with flavour, it was a joy to have. I am a fan of siew yoke skin, but there is something that an English style roast pork just has, which its Oriental counterparts are lacking. I really do not know what it is, but boy the skin was good. It was so crunchy that you can actually feel a tremble at the back of your jaw, akin to what you might have when chewing on some fried chicken batter. It was that crunchy.

A close up of the juicy morsel.

The meat  was done well too. It has a lot of fat and by the looks of it , it was rolled and stuffed with garlic and fresh herbs. I reckon thyme and rosemary, due to the green markings at the bottom of that fatty streak of meat. The wedges that came were well seasoned too.

Hue hue hue...

A great dish overall that went down well with a beer. Hey you cannot fault me, it was a Friday after all.

Meh

My only complaint was the soup, which I felt a bit lacking and tasted as though it came from a can. Well, it is a minor set back when you look at the grand scheme of things.

Another menu on the wall. The wagyu burger sounds so good.

An interesting atmosphere and an interesting menu, I might consider a revisit to try the other items in store. I mean, who would not want to try nasi lemak with a pork chop? If you would like to try that rendition of a Malaysian favourite before it hits the TOG, the address is as follows:
