Korean Dinner @ Korean Sakaba Kokkio , Kitte Hakata, Fukuoka

It is time to turn up the heat. Who does not like fried chicken accompanied with a spicy kick? I mean if you are a vegetarian then I can respect that. But if you are into fried chicken and with a spicy kick, then I got the place for you. It has been a while since I brought in Korean grub here, so it is now time to course correct.

Look what we have here? Chicken at the very top. They understood the assignment.

Korean Sakaba Kokkio is actually a very familiar place for me. Located in the KITTE shopping mall, being a part of the Hakata station complex, I pass by this place many times when I am there doing my errands. And I have eaten here a few times but somehow was not able, or rather, did not have the thought of writing it. Thanks to my Canadian friend Scott who wanted that is not Japanese to eat, we found just the right place.

Assemble!

As the name suggests, this is a drinking and dining place that specialises in Korean food. And no Korean food represents that culture more than KFC, as in Korean fried chicken. There is the classics there such as the spicy Yangnyeom , garlic salt, cheese, and pepper loaded to name a few. Since variety is the spice of life, Scott and I got the half and half which has 8 pieces of the sticky spicy variety and the garlicky one. Standing at a mere 1950 yen, this was a feast for the senses. I love you Mr Sanders, but today is a special day.

Crunch time

Speaking of special, the chicken had an amazing crunch and the seasoning really amplify the experience the Yangnyeom glaze was spicy, sticky and sweet, providing a barrage of flavours and textures. The garlic was also very pleasant and had a savoury aroma that garlic is famous for. This is a bit drier and as such has a more satisfying crunch. But the crunch does not stop here.

Diet breaker. It is so good.

Next up is another classic Korean specialty, the savoury pancake which stood at 1130 yen. And we got the seafood variety. Calling this good would be an understatement. The batter was well fried, with the crispy bits in the end just felt like golden chunks of awesome. The seafood provided that extra protein and texture which makes it more complete. The seafood in there is quite generous as well, Hidden inside all that batter was the casting of the Little Mermaid I think. With so much squid in there, I wonder how they were able to keep the shape of this fried wonder.

Ok this is pretty good.

Still, a Korean meal will not be complete without some spicy rice cakes. The tteokbokki was a great diversion from all that deep fried glory that we had. Covered with veggies, some ham and a good amount of chewy rice cakes, it gave our palates a break. With that decadent spicy sauce, I am not sure if that give our livers a break. This stood at a modest 730 yen and honestly this can be a meal itself if I am here solo.

Refreshing

A meal will not be complete unless you have some of that infamous Korean soda pop. I got myself the muscat grapes while my friend got the peach. Standing at 430 each, they are not cheap! But it felt necessary and were great to wash everything down. Speaking of necessary, this place does serve an otoshii and it is also 430 yen a head. It was small portion of clams and a serving of potato salad. They are ok, but I could honestly do without it. Probably a minor gripe, compared to the rest of this eating experience which has been excellent.

Front of the house.

Still, that did not stop us from having a great time munching down. Considering this is actually rather near my house, and its midway through my work commute to my new workspace in Tenjin, I might come here more often if I need some serious fried chicken. If that has caught your attention, then why not drop by for some great Korean food? The address is as follows:
