Breakfast @ Toaster!, Tokiwacho, Yokohama, Kanagawa
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and if importance was based on urgency, then this place saved me in the nick of time. During a visit to the Kanto side of the country a giant storm was heading my way to wreck my plans for that weekend. Lucky for me Toaster! was there to save the day. And yes, the exclamation mark is part of the name.

Needing some shelter and sustenance, Toaster! is a breakfast cafe in the morning and a champagne bar by night. I would not mind champagne in the morning, but having a tipsy morning without any food may not be the healthiest idea. And after fighting through the rain with my dingy umbrella in the cold got me pretty hungry. So when I saw their French toast with bacon, I immediately took that order. Although it stood at a hefty 2300 yen, this comes with unlimited drinks, bread, cereal, and a side salad.

Lucky for me the price really justified what I got in the end as the portions were huge! Not your typical kissaten breakfast combo that is for sure. The toast itself was thick and eggy, with a slightly custard-like center. The fatty and salty bacon resting on top of the already decadent toast. A perfectly fried egg with a slightly crunchy white but a runny thick yolk. And to finish it all off, a small chunk of frozen butter and a small cup of maple syrup to up the ante was just amazing.

Eating this felt like I need a degree in engineering as I had to navigate the various layers that made this mountain. The combination of salty, sweet and fatty was just an assault to the senses and made this quite the morning indulgence. Well, there is a side salad to help negate the effect of all the carbs and meat. Although I think that helping of maple syrup probably destroy any health benefits of the greens that were tagging along.

However, that is not all. As mentioned, there is unlimited drinks, bread and cereal. So even after your main plate is done you can go out for seconds. This was such a good call as the rain was just pouring like the day after tomorrow. Having a cup of coffee to keep me company, or shall I say 3, was what I needed to stay warm and dry. The bread selection was actually quite nice too. I tried their maple and coffee bread. Naturally, maple was quite interesting as it had a nice floral taste as expected. The coffee bread also has a nice aroma which I was very familiar. And the brown ripples that they had was a nice artistic touch. They also have raisin bread, but its somewhat common so I decided to ignore it.

After a good time wolfing things down and the rain becoming more subdued, I decided to head out and face the wrath of mother nature. But as that humungous breakfast has fortified me and the rain was now more forgiving, there was no better time. Honestly even without this awful weather, I would still recommend this spot. But with the addition of natural elements out of my control, this was a serious godsend as mentioned. So if you are in Yokohama and you want a big and powerful breakfast to get you by, the address is as follows:
〒231-0014 Kanagawa, Yokohama, Naka Ward, Tokiwacho, 6 Chome−76 Touho building 1F
