Noodles @ Sibu Kan-Pua Mee & Sarawak Laksa, Subang Jaya
If you are somehow stuck in the Klang Valley and you would like to try some Malaysian food born Borneo-side, I have some good news for you. Tucked in middle of suburbia lies this interesting hidden gem which has been selling authentic Sarawak style noodles for the past couple of years. And during a trip back home, I was introduced to this little quaint place called Sibu Kan-Pua Mee and Sarawak Laksa, deep in the heart of Subang.

Welcome to suburbia... |
Well, based on the name alone, it is pretty obvious what they have in store, with Kan-Pua Mee and Laksa being their main focus. And that is what we are having for this breakfast. It has been a while since I have something this hearty as my first meal of the day, as I am used to eggs and fruit for most of my morning. But since I am home, why not give this a go right? The spicy laksa stood at RM12, while the Kan-Pua noodles, were at a more modest RM10.

Double the trouble |
Both noodles to me were pretty outstanding. First, let's talk about the laksa. It definitely made a good first impression. Even by looking at it I know I am going to have a good time. And a good time I definitely had.

Here comes the boom |
It has such a nutty and punchy flavour that only Sarawak laksa has. It has a different profile compared to the usual curry laksa we have, which tends to be more savoury and deep. I like the fact that they have included various aromatics which allow this amazing bowl to be fresh and vibrant. But if you like even more zest to your already vibrant soup, you can add in some fresh limes which make it very close to Thai flavours, but still distinctively its own.

Incredible. |
The noodles were home made too, which I absolutely love. They were very similar to fresh angel hair pasta, with a bit more bite to it. Being fresh noodles, it latches onto the soup relatively easier and allows the infusion to take place. And when noodles absorb the flavour of its liquid surrounding, oh boy, that is when the true magic takes place.

Carnivorous chaos |
Having said that the Kan-Pua noodles were not bad too. With the same type of noodles used, it is flavoured with a soy based meat sauce and covered with very flavourful minced meat. For an easy comparison, it is closer to an abura-soba, for your ramen heads out there. It was much easier to eat compared to the laksa, since there was no soup to deal with. It has a more clear cut flavour profile since the elements are more basic. The meat and charshu that came along also provided a more varied textural experience. This plate of noodles was incredibly tasty too and you can really experience the noodles at its most pure, as compared to the spice bomb that was the laksa.

Front of the house. |
Long story short, this is such an amazing find. Considering that this is such a unique noodle experience in the middle of the suburbs, it is something worthy of a shout out. Granted, it is a bit far from the main city but if you are willing to make the effort to come here, it will be worth it. If this has caught your attention, the address is as follows:
40, Jalan SS 19/6, Ss 19, 40150 Subang Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia
