Sauna Hot Pot @ Mama Kim Sauna Mee, Bandar Puchong Jaya

Hot and steamy does not come close in describing this place.

Why do I always end up in places like this?

Once again, I find myself in a parking lot near a factory looking for food. And like the many times before, its the stuff off the beaten track that makes things more interesting. Located in the industrial section of Puchong, lies this bustling warehouse with alot of energy. I guess the heart of someone looking for good food knows no obstacle eh?

What a crowd!

With the tag line of "where healthy meets yummy", you can be certain this will not put your diet plan or detox programme to jeopardy. The food here is relatively clean, in a sense that there are lots of fresh ingredients used and the cooking does not alter much of the foundations of said ingredients. Their main star, is their Sauna Mee, which is of course, a part of their name.

Glorious

You can opt for noodles for this main stay, which is essentially a claypot noodle dish. However, I was in the mood for rice at that time and they can do that for you too. I opted for the vegetarian one while my folks chose the fish. You would be surprised at the amount of "personality" the vegetarian sauna pot has. Loaded with various vegetables, it was like a rainbow in a pot. The soup itself was intense and strong, yet clean and light. I did taste a very strong mushroom and corn flavour in that clear soup. I reckon that lots of shiitakes and shimejis were used. There were also bits of taro as well, adding a depth of sweetness. The fried tempe adds additional colour and a contrast of texture. This was really good. Do note that their vegetarian option here are quite extensive.

Bubble bubble, toil and trouble

My parents opted for the one with fish in it. It was not too bad, but I feel like there was not as much ingredients as the vegetarian version, hence losing some of that explosive mushroom flavour and probably some of that taro as well. The taste of the fish was also quite subtle, and the amount of fish is a tad too little. Still, it was a decent dish, and for this one was with some noodles.

Mrs Potts' sexier sister.

The drinks are also heading to that healthy side. We had a pot of fruit tea, infused with honey. This was amazing and despite being hot, the sweetness really helps you to cool down. The glass pot does allow the ingredients of this concoction to shine.

Another shot of the interior

The food is quite affordable, with mine costing RM15.00 and the fish was about RM16.50, and that fruit stuffed tea pot was for RM10. A good lunch if you ask me. Being so popular, they have set up branches around the Puchong area. So if you like to give this healthy yet yummy delight a try, the branch I visited is as follows:

39, Jalan Layang - Layang 4,
Bandar Puchong Jaya, 47100 Puchong, Selangor

A big signboard near the entrance. Does look good right?
