Nasi Lemak @ Kopi Pot by Big Three Food Square, Menara Binjai, KL

There is a new player in town, well three in fact. But what is Big Three exactly?

A peek inside

Big Three Food Square, or Big Three in short, works like a co-working space for three different independent food outlets, crammed into one tight yet cozy package. One such outlet is Kopi Pot which specialises in local cuisine and is famed for its set lunches, especially its nasi lemak set lunch.

Old school! Drink by the corner.

The set lunch was quite good value where you can get the base rice dish with a drink for RM10 or if you want to live it up a bit, a side dish chicken curry or fried chicken for the total price of RM20. The fried chicken was my pick, while another friend chose the curry. That other friend was in fact Ivan! The actual "father" of the TOG! If you want to know more about the story between us two and the conception of the blog, like literally, do check out my post 200 Q and A by clicking here

Le close up.

The base dish itself was pretty decent. All the usual suspects were there and the sambal was hot, sweet and spicy. The rice was decent and each grain seem to separate from each other easily. Some people like their rice to be a bit more starchy but each to their own I guess. I like them both. The fried chicken was superb. Spiked with a marinade and with little batter, this then allowed for a crispy skin which as that snap effect that you would not get from normal batter. The meat was tender and juicy too. I have to admit that I had some better fried chicken in the past, but this was still top quality.

Drink wise, I had the "cham" or for some folks, the coftea or "yinyong" in some parts. The combination of coffee and tea is always hard to get right, but this place hits it out of the park. With its sweet and creamy flavour, it reminded me to those earlier days visiting Hong Kong style cafes.  It is a real shame the blog had not existed then. Hopefully I would be able to visit that great city soon.

Literal red tide!

Ivan on the other hand had the curry chicken and according to him it was really good too, and I had a chance to taste the gravy. It was thick and rich, with a deep herbal punch. You can taste the spices, thats for sure. The chicken was decent too, although personally, I would prefer the fried chicken. For the drinks though, that crazy man chose the 'giam', which means salty coffee.

Whuuut??

Strangely, it worked! The saltiness was very obvious, but it somehow elevated the drink like how salted caramel is much better than normal caramel. That savoury after tones complimented the creamy and sweet profile of the coffee.

This was actually quite a loaded bowl!

Well, if you are not into spicy food, there are other options like the fish ball noodles. They were alright, and the fishballs do feel home made. But I would prefer any Malaccan bowl of noodles any time. Still, I would order this instead during a rainy day. This bowl is also covered the set lunch but it stands in a much more affordable tag of RM15. There are other dishes not under the lunch set menu like fried rice and other noodle dishes that are worth trying.

A deliberate detour at night, to show the neon glows.
Not as pretty in the afternoon, but you get the picture.

There were some ideas for me to include the other two establishments under Big Three, which were Hanatei Xclusive and So Bar sake bar. I have already posted a lot of Japanese food already and I feel I should do some local food justice. Be that as it may, this is a great lunch spot. And being just behind the Ampang Park station, it is very easy to get to. Fancy a go? The address is as follows:

G-01, Menara Binjai, 2, Jln Binjai, 50450 Kuala Lumpur
