Korean Lunch @ Namoo on the Park, Publika, Kuala Lumpur

A modern take to traditional Korean dishes, Namoo on the Park is a quirky yet fun place to be, especially if you are into variety of small eats. And I brought my family there for a weekend lunch not too long ago.

We arrived quite early, the crowd came an hour later.

Literally located next to a park, as the name suggests, this establishment serves Korean grub in a more modern and chic way. You can order main dishes for a person if you like, but if you are a person like me who enjoys variety, you can opt for the tapas menu. Well, Koreans do not have tapas like the Spanish, but you get the gist.

The classic.

So first in line was a usual favaourite, which is the seafood pancake. The Kpop relative of the okonomiyaki did not fail to impress. It might look simple, but this thing was packed with flavour and alot of ingredients were included in the batter. If you love shrimp and squid, then this is your go to. The sauce was incredible too, and that thick layer of chilli oil added a nice zing to everything. And that stood for RM11.00 a plate. Not a bad deal and will be quite filling for a small eater.

Crunch!

Another of the tapas that we ordered were the vege mandu (만두). Stuffed with kimchi and tofu, this was another flavour explosion. Each dumpling was fried then steamed, similar to a pot sticker. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and chewy in between, this was another crowd pleaser. And a servng of 4 pieces was for RM9.00. Modest.

This was very special. Would order again.

If you like sweet and savoury together, then the mattang  (맛탕) will surely please you. Directly translated to sweet potato, the caramelised sweet potato was accompanied with a healthy heapful of rice cakes and a nuts being topped off for good measure. A huge contrast of flavours and textures again. I liked how the rice cakes clashes with the heartier sweet potato pieces.  This I thoroughly enjoyed. And that my friends was for RM8.00.

At least its cheesy!

If you really want something more like a tapas, then give the kimchi chicken taco a try. It was a soft taco shell that enveloped a giant amount of kimchi flavoured chicken. from the outside, it looked more like a chimichanga to me, but I digress. Still great though, and it was for RM 12.00.

Another classic selection.

And lastly, you cannot have a complete Korean meal without a hot and steamy bowl of spicy kimchi soup. As we had the seafood version, it was the priciest among the bunch, as it stood for RM 25.00. Still, it was loaded with squid, tofu and crab sticks. So it was not too bad really. Oh and it came with a bowl of rice.

You can have an al fresco meal to, it faces a park after all.

Simple yet interesting, Namoo does have more to offer as they serve a variety of coffees and also bingsu. But as we had a decent meal already, we would stop it at that. Overall, a nice and comfortable place for a casual meal with family and friends. And the prices are not too bad as well, as you can see with what we have ordered. Fancy a go? The address is as follows:

Level G3, Lot 4A , Solaris Dutamas No.1 , Jalan Dutamas 1 , 50480 Kuala Lumpur

A view of the entrance, from within the mall.
