Italian Dinner @ Pizza Uno, USJ 10, Subang Jaya

It has been a while since I have visited a former flame, Italian food!

I am not sure why it does not have as much fan fare as other cuisines over here, but to me, a slice of proper oven baked pizza is pure divine. And a return visit to Uno with my folks and my brother reinvigorated this love affair after so long. It was a very long time since I have eaten in Uno, probably 15 years. So it is about high time I have a good chow down on some great Italian delights.

Where the magic happens

The premise for their food is simple, but comforting. The classics and a few extras. And when you are there, pizza is a must. It is not called "Pizza Uno" for nothing. And the process is as legit as it gets. Like using a stone oven sort of legit.

Oh yeah!

Being a return visit, we decided to be a bit more adventerous. And instead of the usual margarita or four cheeses, we opted for the Domo. Topped with roasted pumpkin, chicken and olives, and with anchovies smeared on the dough, it was an interesting contrast of flavours and textures. Sweet clashed with salty. No tomatoes here, which was a pizza version I had not had for a very long time. And I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Such beauty.

If you are into pastas, then why not try the ravioli? Their classic chicken and mushroom is one of their crowd pleasers. The filling was well seasoned and the pasta shell was supple and bouncy. The tomato sauce was sheer delight and a bit of cream has been included to add a bit of a velvety feel to the overall dish. This was a real fun dish to have.

Sheer elegance!

Another crowd pleaser is also their cream of mushroom soup. Thick yet smooth with chunks of mushrooms floating in between, this is again another textural experience. The whole thing felt like a noisy orchestra, but yet everything syncs into harmony. The soup was earthy and slightly sweet, with the chunky mushroom bits giving it an earthy texture. Canned soup be damned!

Quaint but comfy

Pizza Uno has always been known to be a classy place, with a rustic element to it. The food is honest and unpretentious, yet absolutely delicious. It is refined yet familiar. And the prices are quite good too. Pizzas are around the RM24-40 mark, and pasta dishes have a price range of RM20-30. In case if you are curious, the Domo was for RM36 and the ravioli was for RM 28. And that absolutely gorgeous soup was RM15 a serving.

Another shot of the oven.

This is a Subang establishment that has served many satisfied customers throughout the years, since 1997 in fact! However the owners have decided to hang up their aprons and they will be closing very soon in March 2020. So, it was about apt that I can at least sing one swan song to an old friend before the shutters close for the last time. Who knows? I might come and eat again before they close. So if you intend to come over soon, better do so now. The address is as follows:

55, 41, Jalan USJ 10/1A,  47620 Subang Jaya, Selangor

I was unable to take the photo of the front as it was raining. So I hope this will do.
