Laksa @ Nyonya Cendol, Main Place, USJ 21

Time to get some spicy on for a change! And if you like laksa, then this is the place to be.

There have been alot of rave about laksa in general, after that news from Lonely Planet' Ultimate Eatlist that says laksa is one of the best dishes to have in the world. Well, that praise is something noteworthy, however there are many other dishes that deserve some recognition, both locally and foreign.

One a less crowded day

Be that as it may, a good bowl of spicy noodles does sooth the soul. And fortunately enough, my favourite spot in Klang Valley is just a few minutes drive from my place, as it is located in my local mall, Main Place. Despite tucked in a mall, this is no mall standard restaurant.

Tasty

The food here is really authentic and the laksa is indeed noteworthy. Called Penang curry noodles heres, the soup is thick and dense, loaded with coconut flavour. The chilli profile is strong but not overpowering. I really enjoy it, and the kick is not too intense. As such, the not so seasoned spice eaters can still enjoy it. However, if you need to add more fire, you can of course get some sambal to add in more intensity.

Witness the thickness

The bowl is also loaded with various toppings. My favourite is the soy puffs, or "tau pok" to most people here. When the cavities if the puff is filled with the broth, it becomes some very intense flavour explosion. It has prawns as well, which is always a plus point. And being at RM10.90 a bowl, this is really something of amazing value.

Frosty

If the heat is too much, or you have room for dessert, then look no further as another coconut intense dish is there to save the day, the cendol. Well, the establishment is named after that no? And its about RM5 a bowl, depending on your toppings.

It is sweet, thick and frost. Like what a good bowl of cendol should be. The cendol noodles have that strong screw pine taste and they do not take it easy when it comes to the gula melaka. There is a lot of that palm sugar syrup, giving it that woody and floral aftertaste, that iconic aroma when it comes to this amazing frosty delight. The best part, the noodles are home made.

An alternative for you if you are not into spicy food

There is alot in the menu if you are not a fan of laksa. The pan mee decent and the chee cheong fun does make up for a light snack. However, it is the laksa that is the main seller in this place. Lots of people come here for the laksa or cendol. And you might see me getting my grub on during a Sunday here if you are lucky.

If you are up for some good old fashioned nyonya style delicacies with me, the address is as follows:

Lower Ground, LG-08, Main Place Mall
Jalan USJ 21/10, Usj 21, 47630 Subang Jaya, Selangor.
