Noodles @ Chun Kei Tai Bu Noodles, Jalan Sayur, Kuala Lumpur

A bowl of noodles always satisfies. And it is always tough for me to point out which is the best noodle dish I have ever had. From ramen to tai chaos, the variety is endless. And to makes matters worse, I found a place that can easily take my money for some good chow.

A popular local establishment

Chun Kei Tai Bu is located smacked in the center of Pudu, the grittier side of town. A simple, no frills kopitiam, this place has some noodles worth the trouble getting to. It has a relatively simple menu, which is regular Hakka style noodles or lou shi fan, the rice rat tail noodles. Don't worry, there are no rats involved in this dish. Simple but delicious. After all, there is really little point to have an inflated menu when things do not deliver. Quality over quantity wins on this one.

Lunch is ready

And in terms of quality, the food here really stand out. And for this round I opted the classic Hakka noodles. The noodles are very firm and bouncy to the touch. There is a pasta-like consistency and I really liked the texture. It is somewhere between a wan tan noodle and angel hair pasta. Your regular noodle strand it is not. And it absorbs the flavours of its toppings very well.

This caught me off guard

Speaking of other stuff in my lunch bowl, you would love this place if you are a fan of porky flavours. There is alot of minced meat and also some slices of Taiwanese style sausages. The mince is deep in flavour, and seasoned with alot of sesame oil. The granules of pork does compliment the noodles and gives it a multi dimensional experience in terms of texture. The char siew slices are no joke too. It is quite amazing to see somewhere not a chicken rice shop that serves such top notch char siew slices. Full bodied, sweet and somewhat savoury, there is alot of things going on in this humble looking but also eye catching bowl.

Not too bad I guess.

This carb loaded treat is also complimented with a bowl of wantan soup. The wantans are decent, but nothing really special to shout about. They are silky smooth though. And the soup was a good palate cleanser.

Heavy lunch crowd

This is a real local spot where it is far and away from those chic spots in the big city. But do not let that deter you. The food is honest, filling and is gourmet on a budget. So how cheap was it? My bowl was for RM7, which is the medium size with no add ons.

A simple menu at the front counter, where all the magic happens.

This shop is easily accessible by the LRT via the Pudu station. Also I did mention lunch bowl earlier on, is because they only serve this amazing treat during the day.  They do open really early in the morning though. Ready to have this simple but satisfying porky treat for your next Sunday lunch? The address is as follows:
