Oh what do we have here?
After being required to do some errands around Hirao and the surrounding areas, I found that there is more to this residential part of town than I realise there are a lot of cafes and restaurants just waiting to be discovered. Well, there have been discovered by many locals before myself and I have many a friend that told me this would be a great place for me to find more material to write about. Well better late than never!In a dire need for a caffeine boost and a sugar fix, I was fortunate enough to stumble upon Good Up coffee on the way back to the station.

An independently run coffee spot that is for the locals, it does live up to the name. The coffee is good and keeps your mood up! Being my first time, it would just be natural for me to get something as plain as possible. As such, the Americano was the way to go. And to compliment it, I got myself a basque cheesecake slice, both of which stood at 550 yen each, leading to a general damage counter of 1100 yen. Not to bad considering what I was about to get.

Black gold
The coffee was seriously something pretty incredible. There was a nice deep flavour to it and the sweetness from the beans were really locked in. The mouthfeel was nice and slightly dry, similar to a pale lager that has been fizzed out. if you are not a beer person, you may not know what I mean. But those who do, you know what I am talking about. It was incredibly full-bodied as well and I liked this very much.

So creamy...
And then there was the cheese cake. It was total decadence. The outer part of the slice had a crusty and crumbly texture, being slightly burnt after all. The inside however was smooth, slightly sweet and absolutely creamy. The creamy and sweet profile hits a nice balance with the black gold in the form of the Americano which although has its own sweetness, differs from that of the cake.

They have merch too!
Then again, it is no surprise that this place will have coffee that rocks. They roast their own beans and have recommended blends depending on what the customer likes. The people in charge also spoke very good English, a nice sigh of relief for foreign visitors who would like to drop by for something nice in the afternoon. It should be noted that their menu is pretty extensive for a cafe. With hot sandwiches, toasts and soups, you can get a decent meal here.

I might come here for a proper lunch someday along with a powerful cup of joe. But for now, I left very satisfied. And at the very least, I know where to get my caffeine kick if I am in this side of town. So if you would like to give this place a shot, pun intended, then the address is as follows;
〒810-0012 Fukuoka, Chuo Ward, Shirogane, 2 Chome−2−14 Terasu Shrogane 1F
