Coffee & Desserts @ Spiral Garden Cafe, 1Fukuoka Building, Tenjin
We once again return to my favourite place. Specifically it is a place where if I have no idea what to have when going out, but I know the place will sort me out anyway type of place! Well, its the 1 Fukuoka building again. Having said that, this shows the variety of stuff they have under one building and the quality as well. It is pretty hard to beat. And this time, it is time for some sweet treats and caffeine.

Spiral Garden Cafe is one of the many unique and artistic cafes littered in the building. Being part art exhibition, home deco store and decorated with various posters, it really provides you with a colourful and eclectic experience. Despite this colourful chaos, it has a minimalistic aura and has a chic feel to it. This is reflected in the food as well. Needing something to satiate my sweet tooth and caffeine dependency, I decided to come with a friend for some sweet treats and a coffee.

| What a combo |
Like most cafes around this area, they do boast a decent menu which makes it hard to decide on what to gobble down next. Eventually, I got myself a drip coffee and a serving of a home made cake roll. The cake roll stands at 600 yen and the coffee was originally for the same price. However, if you get a cake with your coffee, they will provide a 200 yen rebate, thus making the total package to 1000 yen. Pretty decent. And it should be noted that this rebate covers all drinks if you order a food item together.

And what you get was serious value too. The roll cake is not some Swiss roll which has been carelessly pushed together to make some form of log. Rather the outer layer was a nice sponge-like cake and the inside was loaded with thick dairy cream that tasted a lot like fresh milk, but in a custard form. The cake was also served with some berry coulis which provided some tart and fruity afternotes which I like. The contrast with sweet and sour between the cake, the fruity sauce and the cream were greatly welcomed. To top it all off, there was a piece of peanut brittle that was used like a makeshift tiara for the cake. It had a hearty crunch and a buttery backdrop. Such a tasty treat.

The coffee was no slouch either. I liked it a lot. The deep and slightly smoky flavour of this black gold really complimented the dessert that I paired it with. it also help cut out the fat from the cream filling making it less cloying on the mouth.

My friend on the other hand, got a milk gelato which stood at a decent 500 yen. Despite being something fairly plain looking, it was pretty incredible. it felt like frozen milk, but had a velvety texture of something very divine. The level of milk fat of this frozen treat must be off the charts. It had that luxurious smooth feel which you get some premium ice cream, and it was gone within seconds.

But the food itself are not limited to these sweet treats. Rather, there are pasta and sandwiches too that are worth trying. As we already had something substantial prior to this visit, we would probably try them some other time. But what you can have a peek into without any money is the vibe of this place. Located near a window, you can see the rest of the city. The panoramic view is really amazing. The interior is great too. As mentioned earlier, everything was vibrant and artsy, despite keeping a whitewash minimalistic atmosphere. Also, there was a giant inflated banana peel just outside the cafe. It definitely made a strong impression.
