Hambagu @ Yoshimi Fukuoka, Fukuoka Airport, Fukuoka

It is not often that I eat in an airport. And sometimes when I do, it tends to be ramen, or other situations where I am really hungry and going back into the depths of the city seems like a task I really have no energy to undertake. But alas, after a flight back from a work trip, I have caved in. Luckily it was where I started, which is Fukuoka Airport.

I mean, it is a no brainer that I end up in the airport that is closest to my apartment. Having said that, this is one of the few airports where the food options are actually pretty good, especially considering the fact we have an actual ramen street in the premises. Despite that being very tempting, I opted to have something else and ended up in a restaurant named Yoshimi. In all due honesty, it was the plastic food that was displayed outside the establishment that caught my attention. And before long, I got myself a hambagu dinner standing at a modest 1780 yen. It may sound like a hefty price but I was very hungry at the moment. Once I took a gobble into my dinner, I can feel that the price is somewhat justified.

Oh look at that!

The mince was very clean, in a sense ,that you can feel every grain of the meat in the mince. It was pretty flavourful too, and you can feel bits of onion which provided some depth to the oeverall meal package. Even if that was not the case, the bed of onions under the patty would have done the job. The sauce was quite nice too, giving it a sweet and sour profile which help bind everything together. The patty itself was quite juicy as it is, but the sauce added more moisture, which made everything a nicer experience to go with.

Look at that beauty.

Of course, a chunk of meat does not make a complete meal. The miso soup that came with this was surprisingly good. It was quite savoury with a hint of zest. The corn, potato salad, and broccoli that was served together was nothing to shout about, but it did give some balance in terms of texture and flavour. The rice was a great companion as it help temper the fat and punch of the mince as I bite everything down. Then again, I was very very very hungry during this time and after a long flight, I felt anything would have tasted good. Luckily, my dinner was pretty good as it is, and it was not my insane hunger taking over my body and mind.

Surprisingly refreshing

Hunger or not, this was a meal that was worth taking note of. There are other nice meals there too, that are also strongly represented by the plastic counterparts. But trust me, they will taste nothing like plastic. So if you would like to try out the hambagu that I had or try their other wares, then the address is as follows:

3nd Floor Domestic Airport, 778 Shimousui, Hakata Ward, Fukuoka, 812-0003.

Front of the house.
