Salt Butter Bread Roti @ Roti Girl Fukuoka, Haruyoshi, Fukuoka
As a true blue Malaysian, I had gobbled down many Roti Boy buns back in the day. Freshly baked with a crunchy coffee and caramel crust with a salty interior consisted of salty molten butter, it has been a sinful indulgence that I always enjoy. It is very difficult to find a Malaysian who does not enjoy it. And if you do not, I think confiscation of your passport is something of a no brainer.

So when I was told that something very similar is here in Fukuoka city, it was also a no brainer for me to go hunt down this mystical treat. I mean, how on Earth does this very local baked treat end up in this side of the country. Which led me to the aptly named Roti Girl. Located near the Yanagibashi Rengo market, this shop is very easy to spot. What makes it easier was that distinctive Roti Boy bun smell that was slowly creeping into the atmosphere.

Simply called Roti, a piece of this precious morsel stands at 270 yen. Looking at the current exchange rate now, it seems to be a fair price. In any event I have gone too far and waited too long for this. Almost as immediate as I got hold onto the pillowy baked treat, I took my first bite. And then the magic slowly unravels itself. It was without a doubt almost identical as to what I remembered it to be. The sweet and slightly smoky outer crust , the soft inside, and the slightly salty and buttery core just rings nostalgia.

The whole thing was just simple but very satisfying. It just proves to show that no matter how long you have not eaten something, flavours tend to always be locked into some part of your brain, and only reminded once again after a bite which brings you to that original memory. I might sound a bit too pretentious but I am really not. This hits home literally and I enjoyed it very much. So much so, that one bun was cleared down in less than a minute.
Although I do not usually have baked treats like this often, at the very least I know where to get it now. And I really look forward to my next visit. it should be noted that there are other variations and sandwich options for you to choose. But personally that will provide you with a different experience and is not what the original Roti Boy bun is meant to be. Having said that, the sandwich options do look good and may work. Still, I will keep it simple with the original classic. So if you would like to try some serious Malaysian treats personally approved by me, here is the address to the place. You will not be disappointed.
