Pork kalguksu @ Masjondi, Jungmun-dong, Seogwipo.
Now, time for another bowl of noodles. Only this time, we took the effort in finding this joint rather than a random encounter in the food court.
Took us awhile to find this place but here we are! |
Recommended by the receptionist at our hotel, Masjondi has a very simple menu of pork noodles and a couple of rice dishes. Definitely quite out off the beaten track for some, hilarity and danger ensued when we were driving around Seogwipo just to find this noodle joint. After messing about with our GPS, Waze and stop signs, we finally made it to this simple corner by a crossroad.
Simple interior with a simple menu |
The menu is relatively simple. But as we were on a mission to eat pork noodles, why abort it? Might as well go all the way to the finish line. And what came about was some soupy goodness that was great for slurping.
Tada, a bowl of goodness! |
The broth very robust. It has a pale beige colour and thick. Its very similar to a tonkotsu broth but lighter than its Japanese cousin. The noodles are very fresh and had a good bounce when eating. The bowl was also served along with streaks of meat. They were OK, slightly bland as they looked like they have been blanched. Still, it complimented the dish as the soup was so dense, something more neutral will fit in just time.
Time to get the pork on. |
The place was reasonably crowded too. The food may have played a role, but patrons did stay on to watch the latest updates on the InterKorea Summit that was happening there and then. Although I was very interested in watching the news, the interest quickly waned due to the language barrier.
Watching very attentively, or trying to do so. |
Still, a fine afternoon with some fine noodles. Would I drive there again to have it? Perhaps, although not likely. Its still a good bowl of kalguksu though and the ₩7000 price tag made it one of the cheaper meals around as well. If you would fancy a go, here is the address:
86, Jungmun-dong, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do,
