Burgers @ City Bakery Bar & Burger Rubin, Tenjin, Fukuoka

I was so impressed with the burgers during my first visit, that I have decided to do a few more revisits to provide this great establishment the treatment it deserves. As such, it will probably be a good idea to read my first post on City Bakery Bar & Burger Rubin beforehand by clicking here, to get some better context.

So much joy.

This time, I decided to get a slightly upmarket version of the cheese burger, and ended up with a chilli cheese burger. For my side dish, I opted for the mushroom potage and the accompanying drink was a lemon ginger fizz. Combined, this meal stood for 1155 yen.  And as mentioned in my previous post, the basic cheeseburger is already pretty good. So, if you add anything extra, it will of course be even tastier. So it was no surprise, that this meal was utterly satisfying.

What a glorious close up.

The chilli mentioned here is in fact chilli con carne. Loaded with mince, beans, and a good helping of spices, this gave the burger another dimension in terms of texture and flavour. The bun is the classic burger bun from City Bakery. As such, it was able to withstand the extra moisture that the chilli was loaded with. An average sloppy Joe with a patty, this definitely isn't. I won't go over the burger itself, as I have already explained before. Needless to say, it was good.

Soup on point!

The soup was absolutely decadent. With chunks of mushrooms, floating around a velvety soft and smooth soup, this was delightful and sublime. You might assume that you are having an entre in a fine dining meal. But nope, this is a burger joint. Highly recommended. And the lemon ginger fizz was very refreshing. Another thumbs up.

Fish o filet, this clearly isnt.

But what if you are not in the mood for beef? Then the fish burger is a very strong recommendation on that department. The soup and drink combo for this stood for 1122 yen. For the soup, I opted for their seasonal special, which was their summer veggies soup and for a drink I opted for an ice coffee. The fish fillet that was between the bun was outright amazing. it was crunchy on the outside, soft and flaky on the inside. The tartar sauce that came with it had the right balance of sweetness, tartness and savouriness.

A creative mess? Or something better? Only you can decide. Still tasty though.

The summer soup was a bit unusual but was quite tasty too. It was relatively spicy, for Japanese standards at least, and was loaded with okra and bacon. Well, you can't go wrong with bacon! And the coffee that came with it was an absolute star. It was deep, strong and very flavourful. It definitely came from a barista that cared, and I felt quite buzzed after it.
