Burgers @ City Bakery Bar & Burger Rubin, Tenjin, Fukuoka

 

It is not often you get a bakery that does good burgers, let alone burger buns themselves. But City Bakery Bar & Burger Rubin hit the nail on this one. 

Still a bakery?

Technically, this establishment itself is not a bakery perse. But rather, this bar and restaurant is a sister establishment of the popular City Bakery chain of bakeries. They are all over Japan. Despite that, the only bar and burger outlet is here in Fukuoka. And boy, those burgers are some serious eats. As always, I got myself the classic cheeseburger set as a litmus test. 

Glorious

One benefit of the establishment being linked with a bakery is that the buns are just spectacular. They were firm yet quite fluffy and a little chewy. There was a good bite and it was able to hold everything together. However, the bun is not the only star in this show. 

Handheld bombshell

The burger itself was charred to perfection. Slightly grainy, smoky, and packing lots of punch, this was great from start to finish. Accompanied with the standard melty cheddar and you get a recipe for a beautiful disaster. Really tasty. 

A good fries alternative.

Unlike other burger joints, you have more options when it comes to the companion to your meaty headliner. I was able to get myself a tomato chowder soup in place of fries and a blueberry ginger soda compared to the standard cola or root beer. This really made the meal more upscale and fancy. It also did not make me feel like a grease bucket. Well, I do not have fried potatoes in here unlike most time. This soup was no gimmick too, as the soup was zesty and hearty at the same time, with chunks of clam and shrimp floating about. 

Fizzy

This was a job well done and I got to give my gratitude to the chef for a satisfying lunch. The price was decent too, as this meal stood for a modest 1122 yen. There are other interesting varieties as well, and I would gladly explore the other parts of the menu fairly soon. Fancy a go? Then the address to this place is as follows:
