Burrito and Tacos @ Mezcla Burrito, USJ 9, Subang Jaya.

Yup, it was one of those weekends where I need something quick like lightning for lunch to clear off errands. The car ain't gonna clean by itself alright? Thus, after sorting out some weekly shopping for essentials, its time for lunch. And being somewhat in on a Mexican vibe, a good burrito will be in order. Would Speedy Gonzales step up to the challenge and feed me? Perhaps not. He is a fictional character after all.

Le menu

But what is not fictional is the new burrito bar that has opened in USJ 9 called Mezcla. Really close the the police station near my house, this was a great find. It has been a while since I have entered into a burrito bar. Most places that serve the Mexican popiah are posh restaurants and American chain rip offs. Mezcla is not one of those places.

One of those crowded weekends.

The premise is pretty simple, look at the menu and order what you fancy. You can build your own burrito, like subway but it will be a little more pricey. I opted for grilled steak. Once it is ready you can pick it up from the counter.

Nostalgic

When I finally sat down, a jolt of nostalgia just hit me. It reminded me of the times where I would go to a burrito bar back in London and grab lunch there. Simple, filling, unapologetic and just darn good. Burrito from Tortilla was a hungry student's salvation. They may not fill that void, but Mezcla has done a good job.

A dynamite over here.

The beef was substantial and well seasoned. The cheese  inside amalgamates everything together and the salsa gives it that unique but definitely obvious Mexican vibe. That followed with a good serving of guacamole. It was not obvious when you look inside. When you chew it down however, than it springs out. The veggies were fresh and vibrant, adding a dimension to the meal and refried beans added some additional richness. That was some handheld dynamite. And at RM15, it does not cost a bomb.

Crunch!

Another noteworthy mention is actually the dipping sauces. Especially the garlic mayo. that was a super condiment to go with your corn chips.

Colourful, that is for sure.

If you want something easier to handle though, there are tacos. On a previous visit, I had fish and mango and also beef and chilli. They were alright but not as filling. Burrito wins hands down. However, if you are after variety, then maybe tacos would suit your needs better. And FYI, two wheat flour tacos cost RM11.

Important PSA.

With lunch sorted, and stomach satisfied I can safely say this I will visit this place again. When? I am not too sure. But if I am out and about for another jam packed day in the vicinity, Mezcla would be a serious consideration for lunch or dinner. Fancy a go? The address for this establishment is as follows:

18-1, Jalan USJ 9/5q, Subang Business Centre,
