Japanese Shabu Shabu @ Kuro, Plaza Arkadia, Desa Park City.

With a hashtag that says "#meatallyouwant", you can be rest assured the most ardent carnivores will like this place.

Located at Plaza Arkadia, Kuro is a recently opened hotpot joint specialising in Japanese style shabu shabu. For the uninitiated, Kuro means black in Japanese, as the black hog  (aka kurobuta or 黒豚) is one of the items in store.

Yin and Yang

Being a buffet, there are a lot of options. However, before you can start the show, you have the option to choose the type of soups you would like to have for your hotpot. We picked the pork bone broth, similar to a tonkotsu, and also the sukiyaki stock. There are other options like curry and chicken as well, and would probably sample that on another day.

A look see in the interior

There is little to mention in regard to the food prep as this is a hotpot, its a DIY affair and you got to eyeball your items that you have placed in. There are various vegetables for your choosing like corn on cob and dark leafy veggies. There are also the usual suspects like fish cakes and various seafood items, and they are quite high quality. However, I was unable to take any photos of the buffet line.

Meat lovers unite!

Where this place shines is the meat. There are several choices in the animal protein you can pick: chicken, beef, lamb, squid , fish and of course the black hog. My party of three sampled everyone of them, and there is not a main favourite as certain meats go better with certain stocks. As sukiyaki is dark and sweet, naturally red meat is more suitable. The murky porky broth is full bodied, but has a very neutral taste, which seems to suit the chicken and seafood items better.

A loaded bowl.of alot of things.

You can top up the stocks, but I would usually let my sukiyaki reduce do a very syrupy and stick liquid, where I feel is the best way to have it. We did top up our pork broth though.

The price itself is quite reasonable, whereby its was RM60 for each of us. Note that the prices do vary on the time and dates you visit the establishment. What surprised me was the amount of Japanese patrons that visit the place, where there were at least 2 tables that were Japanese customers.

The front of the house serves as a menu as well. Do check the rates before you enter as they vary on the days you visit.

A simple concept done right and although is slightly more pricey that your usual steamboat joint, this place is definitely worth a visit. It was rich, soupy and very satisfying. Fancy a go? The address is as follows:
