Dinner and Drinks @ Tenjin Sky Beer Terrace, Tenjin, Fukuoka
Seeing that it is the summer time with the hotter weather coming in, more and more events have been popping up providing great al fresco experiences. And of course, a good opportunity to get a few drinks with friends. One of which is the Tenjin Sky Beer Terrace.
The calm before the storm, literally and it poured 30 minutes later. |
Located at the rooftop of Nishi Nippon Shimbun building, this is dead center of the city, giving patrons a great view of the urban landscape. Which was what I initially thought with I went with my colleagues after work during one Monday evening. But in the end, that was not meant to be as it was pouring during our visit. Having said that, we still had a good time as everything else was pretty good. So what did they have to offer?
Just a small sample what what they have to offer. |
For starters, this is a Chinese buffet which stands at 5500 yen for 2 hours. It may sound hefty but it is actually very good value. The buffet spread was pretty good, loaded with various classics like sweet and sour pork, fried noodles, spicy ribs, and even dim sum. So if you are looking for variety, this is definitely the place you need to be. There will definitely be something for everyone.
The first of many food runs! Although I question why someone would want that much rice with curry |
Kudos to the chefs that made these as they were pretty good, despite being a buffet. Of course, it will not compare to a dish that was made fresh to order for just one person. However, the quality has been quite consistent considering the speed of which the food pops out and the amount of people that were there at the time despite the rain.
Even the drinks are all decked out. |
This buffet comes with drinks, and a lot of them. Do you like nihonshu? It has a decent selection. how about chu hai drinks? You have shochu from the bottle and flavour bases to make your own alcoholic dreams come true. There are even beer pouring machines that would give you the perfect foam cap with just a push of a button. It should be noted that it is only Asahi. Still, it is a decent beer which goes well with fried foods. Then again, any beer goes well with fried foods, but I digress.
Time for a chow down! |
And after 2 whole hours of gluttony, our group of 8 have decided to call it a day before the meat sweats kick in. Despite being a great time with friends, I have to note that a 5500 yen price tag can be a bit of an intimidating entry point. Also, you can get really good deals for cheaper if you put a but of effort. You tend to come here more for a variety and the vibes, which does has its value and I really appreciate as it is the perfect way to enjoy the summer. So if you would like to have an al fresco dining experience with lots of booze, lots of food, lots of variety and something for everyone, then this is an easy decision to make. So if you would like to give it a go, then the address is as follows:
Floor 16 Nishi Nippon Shimbun Building, 1 Chome-4-1 Tenjin, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka, 810-0001,
The sign in front that guides you to the premises. Do note that they will close on 12 September |
