Curry Rice @ Curry Bar YOLO, Daimyo, Fukuoka

During one of my evening sojourns in the city, I somehow spotted an interesting curry place. In fact, it was a bit of a hard find, as it is stuck in between the alleyways of the bar and restaurant districts. However, if you want to try something different, you need to find something different right? And since you only live once, might as well explore. What a segue!

Not your usual curry spot

This interesting curry place is called Curry Bar YOLO. Stuck in small alleyway, it was a bit tricky to get to. But if you have a sense of adventure, you will be rewarded with a treat. This bar no surprisingly, prepares very good curry and have at least 4 types to choose from. Needed some heat in my life, please but your brain out of the gutter, I opted for the spicy curry. A highball was my side companion for this. The curry stood at 1000 while the fizzy boozy slugger stood at 450 yen.

Just wow.

And despite being a bar, this curry turned out to be very impressive. There were alot of elements going on. Even on my first bite, I felt an explosion of cloves and cumin. There were traces of szechuan peppers as well, with a hint of acidity. Authentic, this is not. But if you want explosive power, this was it.

First of many amazing bites

The chicken meat for this dish were soft chicken floss that absorbed the powerful spice combination with maximum efficiency. Each meat strand had so much flavour and aroma. The turmeric rice that came alongside it help temper the volume, and at the same time, provided a good platform for the curry flavours to be transported into your gullet.

Underdog hero.

There were various pickles that came along with it too. The one that took me by surprise was the daikon. They had a toothsome bite and were slightly sweet. Definitely not your standard radish pickle you get from a gyudon place which has a plastic-like flavour at times. This was amazing and clean tasting. It gave an extra sense of dimension into the overall presentation. And when mixed with some rice and curry, it just makes for a perfect combo.

Hello my old friend

It should be noted that the chef and bartender that runs the place mentioned that they are trimming down the menu. Based on our previous conversation, the butter chicken will stay put. However, much remains to be seen in terms of the other dishes. Still, if all plates are this good, I am sure the butter chicken will end up great too.

It doesn't go to Narnia, but close enough.
If you spot the small round sign, you are at the right spot

So if you are in the middle of the Tenjin or Daimyo area and in need for a spicy bite, this place is a spot you need to try. After all, you only live once. The address is as follows:

1 Chome-11-29 Daimyo, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka, 810-0041
