Summer Barbecue @ The Beach Cafe, Momochihama, Fukuoka
There is nothing like summer barbecue to really usher in the season. Personally, I think this is one of the few best things about having summer. At least it makes the thing more worthwhile. Being the time for some sand and sun, it is just apt to hit the beach for some fun and barbecue.

And speaking of barbecue, there are many eateries around Fukuoka's beautiful beaches that provide barbecue packages. One such establishment is the Beach Cafe, stylized as THE BEACH. Momochi Beach in general is a bit hard to get to by subway, but most main bus routes would pass by. However, the effort to get there will be worth it.
Lets hope nothing gets burnt! |
Each restaurant in the Momochi Beach area has its own version of the barbecue package. The Beach cafe provides a generous platter of various meats and seafood with a free-flowing drinks menu which stands at a hefty 5300 yen for 2 hours. It sounds quite expensive, and indeed it was. However, the quality of the food justifies it a lot.
Look at that meat mountain. |
In fact, the plates of beef and pork just kept on coming. I know it is sort of a limited supply, but the amount of food that kept on coming felt like a buffet to me. The seafood spread was pretty incredible too. Giant prawns and scallops just kept being refilled as well. I really have no idea how many were there. But there was a lot.
We definitely needs some greens right? |
Fresh vegetables also came in generous amounts. One of my favorites was shiitake mushrooms glazed in soy sauce before hitting the fire. Those were great. Freshly charred peppers gave an extra dimension to the overall experience. Additionally, the barbecue patio was also spacious and well-shaded, protecting us from the sun. The heatwave that day was very severe. Thankfully, we were able to stay cool thanks to the tents, and lots of cold beverages.

In that regard, there was a good variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks to choose from. So if you are a teetotaler, that is perfectly fine. However, if you are into your booze, then I strongly recommend the yuzu chuhai soda. That was very refreshing. With a hint of citrus and a splash of shochu, it made the perfect drink while on the beach. And with some freshly grilled pork, there is no better combo.
The beach from the other side of the Beach Cafe. Yeah a bit of awkward grammar there... |
But the day was not just about the barbecue alone. Being the beach, it was no surprise everyone eventually got very wet in the end. So if you would like to experience some fun in the sun, why not book a whole barbecue pit by the Beach Cafe? However, if you are not the kind of guy that likes to play with your food, they do have a standard menu with pasta and seafood dishes that you can enjoy. Regardless, you will definitely have a good time there. Fancy a go? Then the address is as follows:
