A sneak peek inside |
This simple joint is no frills when it comes to its look and menu. Despite that, do not let this deceive you, as this place does serve some serious good eats. Firstly, you would need to choose the type of protein, which consists of char siew, siew yoke, duck or chicken. You then pick what kind of carb you would like to have it with, namely either wan tan noodles or plain rice.
What an inviting table |
On my first visit, I had their triple meat combo of char siew, siew yoke and duck. It was a carnivore's dream come true. Each meat dish was executed well, bursting with flavour and had the right amount of fat for each of them.
Heart stopper. |
The char siew had great caramalization and was super tender. The outside marinade was sticky but not too sweet. It was able to strike that sweet and savoury balance. Not to be outdone , the siew yoke was a slightly different experience as it was more salty and the skin had a good crunch. Finally, the duck was succulent and had a smokey backdrop. Served along side a plate of noodles and you have a delicious disaster ready to happen.
Sleeper hit |
The hidden star for this meal was actually the soup that came with it. It was a very intense yet comporting herbal soup where the wan tans rest. It felt very nourishing and does taste quite premium. On and the wan tans were quite good too.
From a more recent visit. Still good. |
This visit was made many months ago before the MCO came about. So how did the food taste like coming into the new normal? Still pretty good actually. I had again the wan tan noodles during my most recent visit a few weeks ago and it was really spot on. Unlike my past meat feast, I only had the duck and char siew. It was still good and definitely deserves several revisits.
Le menu. |
I think most readers know by now I am a huge supporter of independent and local food haunts and this one is one place I will throw my unwavering support. The food is good, simple yet well executed and is really a gourmet on a budget. Meals can starts from a lowly RM6.50, being just duck and rice. Of course the price will bump up as you add more stuff. For comparison purposes, my triple meat bonanza, with extra wan tans and a drink was just RM16.00. Really good stuff.
Front of the house from a more recent visit. |
I was quite worried that this establishment may not survive during the current climate being a very new place. Yet, they were able to pull it through despite having a smaller crowd, and I am still able to come over and still have a satisfying lunch. And if you would like to give it a go, the address is as follows:
No.6, Jalan USJ 21/6, Usj 21, 47630 Subang Jaya, Selangor
