Nasi Lemak @ Nasi Lemak Ah Ho, Kampung Tujuh, Malacca

As Mr Homeboy is back in town, here is another local crowd pleaser that will surely satisfy. And being close to my Gran's house also made me a little biased. But do give it a try and be your own judge.

Front of the house, before the crowds come in.

There are many famous nasi lemak stalls around Malacca, but not many actually sell the Chinese variant. That is where Ah Ho comes in. Always packed with people, this place sells really good nasi lemak and various side dishes and condiments to go with your rice and sambal. And I was there in a party of four, leading to us trying out alot of stuff.

Looks like nothing, but its simplicity is where its beauty shines.

Naturally, a huge emphasis goes to the rice. It was fragrant and the coconut aroma was really evident. There seems to be a different take to the Chinese way of cooking the rice. To me, I think the rice texture tends to be looser and the grains tend to not stick to each other. I find the Malay style of rice to be a bit more pliable and starchy. No one style is better or worse, but just different.

The whole ensemble!

But when it comes to the condiments and side dishes, this is where Ah Ho really shines. There is a vast array to try. If you want the classic squid sambal? That is sorted.  How about sambal petai? They have that too. Do you like fried chicken? No problem! How about fried fish cake? Not a traditional side to have with your coconut rice. But then again, anything deep fried and laced with sambal will go well with nasi lemak. And without hesitation, we ordered them all. We did get a serving of long beans, you do need some veggies to wash everything down, no? And of course, no nasi lemak meal is complete without eggs and cucumbers.

Business picking up!

This was a thoroughly sinful lunch, and is a different take to the classic Malaysian staple. And despite the array of food that we had, this was surprisingly affordable, as it stood for RM 35 for four people. However, it is best that you come over before 1pm to avoid the lunch crowd, especially during the weekends.

You cannot miss this sign.

There are alot of other side dishes in store too like fried sausages and curries and our stomachs were already filled at the time. However, if you would like to try the stuff that we had devoured (which you should), or try any of the other dishes in store, then the address is as follows:

Jalan Gajah Berang, Kampung Tujuh, 75300 Melaka
