Pork Noodles @ Like Mee, One City, Subang Jaya
Finally took the initiative to write this.
Easily one of my favourite noodle places in the Subang region, Like Mee has a very simple but customise-able approach to the regular pork noodle.
The simple dining area |
Next, choose your toppings. If you like the standard fare, meatballs with meat slices will be the usual bet. If you are ultra adventurous, you can have the "All in Meal". And it means what is says: kidney, liver, intestines, mince and everything edible from the pig. There are a variety of noodles to choose from: the classic yellow noodle, kuey teow, vermicelli or rice noodles aka bihun. Or you can opt for something more special like "yee mee". Something like Subway for the porky glutton.
Happiness in a bowl? Not really, but close enough. |
My usual (and my recommended) combination is the intestines with lean meat slices and "yee mee" noodles with shaoxing wine broth, as illustrated above. I feel that "yee mee" is a better option as it is not really greasy compared to the classic yellow noodles, and thus carries the flavour of the soup of your choice better. The shaoxing wine in the broth adds a deeper depth to the overall package, similar as how stout adds more depth for certain Irish stews.
Although it is such a simple place, but I always come out very satisfied. The soup is rich but smooth. The toppings are always fresh. And the chilli sauce is pungent and slightly sweet but not too overpowering. A great condiment to dip the meat slices. Of course, if you opt for the spicy broth, it will make the chilli sauce redundant.
A humble establishment which I come often, I always recommend the place if people ask me if there is a noodle shop that serves simple but a good bowl of satisfaction. My combination is about RM8.30 and prices may very depending on the toppings you requested or the type of soup.
