Vegan Cuisine @ Sonu Sonu, Tenjin, Chuo Ward, Fukuoka
Now for a little change of pace shall we? Despite the variety of burgers and meaty goodies that are highlighted in the blog, I do have a spot for vegans and vegetarians. I usually have at least 5 portions of veggies and fruits a day and I do stick to a vegetarian diet on the odd occasion as I feel that it does the body good. However, there are limited options when it comes to eating out. This is where Sonu Sonu comes to mind.

Chic
Sonu Sonu is a chic vegan cafe located in the center of Tenjin which does very good vegan meals that sometimes you may have fooled yourself that there is no meat involved. Despite being meat free compared to the other food joints here, the quality you get is top notch and as such, the repeat visits are well deserved. Even if you are not a vegan this is a place worth trying if you are a fan of good food.

What a colourful bowl
For starters, one should try their taco rice bowl which stands at 1500 yen and comes with a drink. If you want more cheese, vegan of course, it will cost you 150 yen more. When it comes to drinks you get a selection of juices or coffees. Honestly, get the coffee as it is very good. This place is a cafe after all. Be that as it may, we are here mainly for the food. So how was it? Very good I have to say so myself.

Loaded
The taco rice bowl is loaded with so many ingredients it felt like a lunch made out of a rainbow. The taco meat, or whatever it is called, was very flavourful and had so many things going on. it was sweet, salty, slightly savoury and had a nice chunky consistency that is similar to mince. There is strong hints of sweet soy and ground cumin, among other things. Mixing it with the rice makes for an amazing time. That is not it though, as the bowl also comes with an avocado salad, some spicy mayo, corn chips and home made salsa.

Hand held flavour bomb
If you are someone who likes to be a bit more personal with your food, then burgers are the way to go. Standing at 1800 yen, the cheeseburger meal comes with a drink and a side salad. I got an apple jice for that one. The patty is a bit mushy but still substantial, and reminds me of a dense hummus. A substitute to a proper beef patty, it is not. But it has loads of flavour and I found the bread very soft and fluffy. The spicy mayo that was used int he taco rice was also inside here. The only problem for me is that I was still a bit peckish after this meal. Having said that, this can be a good light meal if you have something very heavy earlier in the day.

The place is also famous for their vegan cakes but I did not have the chance to try it. They also have pizza too in the menu, and it did catch my attention. Perhaps this would be my order during my next visit! I would definitely like to know how vegan cheese works on a dish that requires a substantial amount of cheese like a slice of pizza. So if you are interested in trying some of the goodies that I mentioned, or the ones that I have yet to try, the address is as follows:
〒810-0001 Fukuoka, Chuo Ward, Tenjin, 3 Chome−6−29 Floor 1
