Beer Tasting @ Beers of Japan Festival 2025 in Fukuoka

Last year, I went to the Beers of Japan festival which was hosted in Lalaport during Golden Week [click here]. It was really fun and I was surprised I did not get totally destroyed. I tried many exotic flavours of one of man's most enjoyed beverages and it was a nice surprise when I stumbled upon something even more extensive not too long ago. I welcome you to the Beers of Japan festival of 2025!

Good weather for some al fresco drinking!

Unlike last year, this was held in the Chuo park behind Acros building in Tenjin. However, just like last year, there is a bevy of beers to try in addition to various food stalls for you to include alongside your alcoholic tonics. In order for you to order, you would need to get beer tickets which stand at 800 yen a pop. Armed with a few at hand, it is time to get my beer on!

Lime on he left, strawberry on the right.
Despite similar colours, that is where the similarities end.

The first one me and my friends tried were from the Fukuoka Brew Master, to which we got ourselves one strawberry beer and another which was cabos lime and honey. The strawberry was ok, with some slight hints of floral sweetness that you would have expected. It has a classic hop-based aroma which was the base of the strawberry essence that followed not far behind after each sip.  However, it was the cabos one that was amazingly delicious. There was a sour hint of citrus that followed along with a very refreshing sweetness. This was so easy to drink and was incredibly dangerous. I might need to find a way to get this on other times of the year. It was that good.

Blue!

From down south we go straight up north where we tried the beers from Hokkaido. Represented by the Abashiri Beer company, we got ourselves a Ryuu Yu beer, which was blue in colour. Do not ask me as to what it means, as the kanji did translate to flowing ice, but you cannot find that in the dictionary. Having said that, it was really refreshing and had a minty feel to it. The flavour is what you would expect of a regular ale. But the mouthfeel was nice and was pretty unique and enjoyable. I like this alot.

Golden

And lastly we head back down to Kyushu where I got myself a genmai (aka rice based) beer from Beer Oh from Oita. This was nice and had the classic golden lager taste that you would expect from a proper pub. It was deep and earthy but not as nutty as compared to something made out of wheat. And despite being made of rice, it is definitely not nihonshu. Still liked it though.

If only if I came here before lunch.

It should be noted that there are many things going on here in addition to alcoholic drinks. There are various food trucks, carnival games and even live performances from local idol groups. So if you still want to come over here for some fun, and you have to drive, you do not have to worry. There is so much that you can do that you would not feel like you are missing out. I would love to try some of the foods there, the chorizo sandwich really caught my attention. However, I arrived here right after lunch, so my gullet was already full before I arrive.

This was fun. Till next time!

This event is still ongoing at the time of publication and it will end on the 13th of October. So time is ticking! If you are within the Tenjin area, this is definitely something you should do this weekend.

Definitely the right weather for a beer.
