Tau Fu Fah @ Huang Soy Bar, SS 17, Subang Jaya

Hello everyone and a Happy New Year. Sorry, I took a bit of time off to celebrate Christmas and to usher in the new year and relax for a bit. But since we are now in a new year, why not begin with a sweet start?

What a menu!

During my previous return home, I was fortunate to pay a visit to Huang Soy Bar. It is a throwback to the good old days, whereby the staple dish here is the humble tau fu fah, or bean curd pudding. Retro favourites are now making a comeback, and what a comeback it was. As it was my first time in this establishment, and also my first time back since moving to Japan, I ordered the classic: simple soy milk. This stood for a modest RM 4.

Skin as white as snow

The pudding was great, with that classic woody and nutty taste you get from soy. The texture was soft and delicate, with every movement of your mouth just breaking it apart, leaving a velvety texture. The soy milk was also pretty good. With a combination of solid and liquid textures,  the compounding effect allows the soy to really shine. So if you are a fan of tofu, then this will hit the spot just right for you.

So delicate

Then again, you may be feeling that this is a bit boring to you. Luckily, there are other toppings and ingredients that you can pick to add more dimension to your dessert. Classic oriental dessert items such as taro balls, tang yuen, and jelly make an appearance, just to name a few. Prices for each item vary based on choice but they hover around between RM 2-4.

Other variations, not too far away.

I also liked the decor of the place. It really reminds me of an old fashion Chinese coffee shop. It felt like a time capsule with all the items hanging around and the choice of furniture. Simple, but cozy. And definitely nostalgic.

Nostalgic.

Another plus point is that this establishment makes everything fresh, so you can guarantee something wholesome but still be able to satiate your sweet tooth. And since I am going back to the gym, something high in protein would always be something that piques my interest. So if you are in the area, why not give it a go? The address is as follows:

Lot 23, Ground Floor, Wisma Dicor, Jalan SS 17/1A, 47500 Subang Jaya, Selangor
