Dinner @ Betty's Midwest Kitchen, Aman Suria, Petaling Jaya

Simple, comforting and really delicious, Betty's Midwest Kitchen is a family run establishment which is homely and inviting. And of course serves good food. Helmed by Auntie Betty, no surprises there, this simple restaurant serves simple yet hearty American dishes to which you cannot find in some other "American-style" international chains. You know who these are.

Hefty!

First off for the night was a serving of tomato and ham soup. And although it is an entre serving of one, the soup was so loaded with ham and vegetables, it can easily be a  meal for one instead. The soup was tomato base and yet does not taste like a diluted bottle of Prego. The soup had a lot of character and the ham and bacon gave it that porky savouriness which gave this soup an extra flavour profile. Do note that this was their soup of the week, which means it may change on the next visit.

Criss-cross action!

If you are porky kind of person, then you will absolutely love this place. We ordered a serving of soft ribs and meatloaf for sharing. The ribs were absolutely perfect. Tender to the touch and juicy all over, this was some killer ribs. The barbecue sauce for the marinade was really good as well. It was somewhat sweet yet packs a nutty punch. It stood for RM42 with a side of fries and will easily satisfy any carnivore.

Some stunner right here.

For more something more legit, then the house specialty meatloaf is a must order. This was an absolutely beauty. Looking like the more sinister brother of banana bread, a plate comes with two hefty slices of the thing with a side of peas and mash potatoes. The meatloaf has alot of substance and was very complex in flavour. Nutty, sweet, salty, savoury...this monster had it all! Not to mention the mash that came with it. It was well seasoned with butter and the gravy that came with it was just magical. This is not something KFC can imitate.  And this generous plate comes in at an affordable RM24.90. We also ordered some home made lemonade. And it was so good that I forgotten to take pictures of it. Lets just say its worth ordering.

A peek into the premises.

This great establishment has a lot to offer and has some of the other classics like pulled pork and fried chicken, which I would definitely try during a second visit. And this place deserves a second visit. The food was good, the staff was attentive and Auntie Betty was a gracious host. She shared the time when she spend in the US which eventually inspired her to set up this humble restaurant. And she, like all of us from the rest of the world, hopes that America can heal soon from the current crises that it is facing.

Look at all these porky paraphernalia !

So if you are out on a special date night, celebrating birthdays or just want to have a nice family gathering, let Auntie Betty take charge of it all. And if you would like to try out the delectable morsels we had or the other stuff on the menu, the address is as follows:
