Fusion Dinner @ Table and Apron, Damansara Kim, Petaling Jaya

Note: this establishment was visited before the MCO took place.

Crowded mid-service.

Sophisticated and simple at the same time, Table and Apron ticks all the boxes for a fancy chic meal and yet provides a warm and comforting vibe around it all. And most importantly, a delicious one at that. Props to my brother in recommending the place for a family feast, which included my parents.  Being located in the suburban heart of PJ, it serves experiential fusion dishes to the local patrons and was formerly known as the infamous Kitchen Table. The name changed but many a review said that the approach and quality has stayed the same. I have not tried morsels from Kitchen Table before but I got to say that what we had was really good.

This was a flavour explosion

In terms of what we ordered for our party of four, we had their famous roasted cauliflower with ricotta and their seafood chowder, which was their soup of the day.The cauliflower was loaded with various textures and flavours. Being roasted, the cauliflower florets were much softer and had a charred texture and flavour, while that ricotta dressing gave a strong pungent kickback and a salty aftertaste. Contrasts that work really well. But I can understand why if some people may not be a fan as ricotta is an acquired taste. But for me, it was awesome. Truly awesome.

Deceptively delicious

The chowder was just loaded with shellfish and can be a meal on its own. The scallops were fresh and supple to the touch and the soup itself was not very fishy. Rather it felt like a slightly thinner gravy that you get from a roast dinner. And I mean it in a good way. There were chunks of potatoes too which I like.

An assault to the senses.

The ulam rice came next, which was really surprising. It was a classic kampung dish which was morphed into something more refined and divine. I do like classic Malay dishes and it did not push the boundaries a bit too far. So it gave a familiar but still new vibe. Ferns with crab? Who would have "thunk" it? And the sweet and spicy soy sauce was the coup de grace to this assault to the senses.

Oink oink...

How about main dishes? Well, there are options here that will not leave you wanting. We ordered a portion of pork chops and it did not disappoint. A fresh slab of meat that was charred to perfection, it was what a good pork chop should taste like. It was good but compared to everything we had beforehand, the experience here is more subtle and familiar. I mean, its pork right? Although that side of chimichurri gave it a flavour edge.

Stupendous...

If you are not into meat, there are some pasta options to go to. And still in the mood for seafood, the spaghetti alle vongole came soon after. The clams in the pasta were just simply fantastic. Sweet, savoury, tangy and loaded with a garlic punch, this went down very fast.

They do coffee too! I would probably have one if it was in the afternoon.

Overall, this establishment is a place I highly recommend and is a popular date night and family spot. And I can see why. Almost every dish here is meant for sharing and the portions are generous. The dishes here are a bit on the pricey side, but I honestly feel that it would be money well spent. As this was a treat from my brother, I am not able to give you guys a specific price to refer to. However, a review of their website states that most dishes are within the RM20-40 mark, whereby more substantial meat dishes are about RM50 onwards, which is fair I guess.

Front of the house.

Also, it is good to point out that they also provide take-outs and they deliver via Umai. And since we are under CMCO, they now do dine ins but on a limited capacity. In any event, this establishment deserves the shout out. Fancy a go? The address is as follows:

23, Jalan SS20/11, Damansara Kim, Petaling Jaya, Selangor.
