Vegan Lunch @ LN Fortunate Coffee, Solaris Mont Kiara

It is really hard to find good vegetarian food if you are out and about these days. And if you are a vegan, chances are that would be a monster feat on its own. But with a little bit of research and hunting down, there are some nice spots that serve meat free meals and do it well. One such place is LN Fortunate Coffee which I was fortunate to stumble upon. No pun intended.

The Cashier

Tucked in Solaris Mont Kiara, its a safe haven for vegans and vegetarians who would like to enjoy good food and still adhere to their dietary restrictions. Heck, even if you are not, you will enjoy this place as the food is good and the ingredients are of high quality.

Lunch is ready.

A staple at most restaurants like this, if they have burgers, would be a tofu burger. That was the first thing I tried during my first visit. And it is as simple as that. It is a piece of hard tofu between a bun and some salad. Yet, it had amazing flavour. The tofu had a lot of things going on, which I believe it was seasoned with all spice before the cooking process. There was also a "cheese" sauce, made of cashews, which is the establishment's trademark. It was quite special. This burger was served with an apple salad and some fries. And the fries were pretty good too. Air fried to perfection, you do not have that cloying and greasy feel like you would get from a regular fast food outlet.

This was delicious.

As I was keen in trying out more, I did a second visit. During my second visit, I decided to order the carbonara, which after some research online, is a recommendation by most patrons. The carbonara was a pleasant surprise as they were able to emulate the creamy texture of a creamy sauce very well. Not similar, but perhaps 70%. More of like a cream of chicken soup texture. OK, maybe cream of mushroom, as chicken is not vegan-friendly.

Crushed!

Being a cashew based sauce, it was nutty and fragrant. There is also that deep woody flavour that comes after each slurp. The roasted tempeh gave it a nice touch too, adding some smoky and savoury elements into it. Pasta was executed well, with an al dente bite to it. This was another lunch that was really satisfying. How satisfying? I cleaned the whole plate.

Frosty

There are other things going on too. Vegan ice cream is also in the menu and the base is that glorious cashew blend that they have. I had the mango flavour and enjoyed it. It was fruity and creamy. Again, it is not the same compared to the real dairy version. But it was still enjoyable to have and a good heat buster.

Nothing like a cuppa joe right?

And being a place with the name "coffee", why not get a cuppa joe while you are here? Many patrons do come here for their coffee along side a slice of cake or pastry, which they bake in house. If you are somehow dating a vegetarian, and you need to impress her, then this is a good place to be.

I really like the usage of white and wood. Very serene.

The decor is nice and calming, with the smell of fresh bread not too far behind. And the food is of outstanding quality. It is abit pricey though, with the tofu burger standing at RM20 and the carbonara at RM25.Still, with that quality, I do not really mind. The ice cream was RM9 a scoop and the coffee was about that price. Not too bad price wise.

Writings on the wall. Words to live by?

There is some serious eats right here and it is a place which I would visit again, which in fact I did as just one visit would not do it justice. As mentioned earlier, even if you are not a vegan or vegetarian, this is a place that is worth your visit. Fancy a go? The address is as follows:

16, Jalan Solaris 4, Solaris Mont Kiara, 50480 Kuala Lumpur

The front of the house.
