Pizza @ Atlas Pizzeria, Four Seasons Place, Kuala Lumpur

If you like your pizza a bit on the special side, then you have come to the right place.

A shot of the pizza counter

Located just next door to the recently reviewed Malaysia Boleh! food court, this place ups the ante to what you can expect from a pizza place. No cheap cheese and fried bread over here. And it was a perfect place to have a birthday lunch.

Cozy

The decor has a sense of simple sophistication, combining elements from an American style pizza parlour. Bright colours are abound, more probably because Christmas is coming soon and the establishment has to play its part in ushering in the festivities. I personally like the area. It was warm and cozy, yet has a sleek and modern feel to it.

Choices ... choices...

The menu is impressive, with usual suspects like the margarita and four cheeses to more elaborate ones like a soft shell crab monster called "Killing Me Softly" and a mushroom and truffle calzone called the "24K Truffle Magic" which our party of 5 picked. To round out our meal, we also ordered a serving of Lamb Meatball Arrabiata Spaghetti. The chefs probably had a real fun time writing out the menu.

Meatball mania

The first serving was the spaghetti. Simple yet fulfilling, its what you get from a well executed spag and meatball dish. The sauce was mild and slightly on the acidic side. The pasta however, felt like it came from a box. I am not complaining about it at all, as I feel that the whole plate was delicious. Just that be prepared to get formerly dry pasta when coming to this place.

Look at that definition!

The meat was also easy to chew on, but still has a lot of bite. The minced lamb was spiced well, with hints of cumin and lots or garlic. Indeed, this is the real star of this dish, and the spaghetti was more like the carriage to the parcel that is the lamb meat, if you get that imagery. Still, It was delicious and a job well done.

Crunch time!

A crustacean colossus came next. Like the name of the dish, this pizza has the right ornaments to kill, but definitely not softly. The soft shell crab was deep fried till golden brown and its legs sprouting out like an ancient spear deathtrap. If you like deep fried foods or you are one of those that eat calamari rings with a fold of pizza like a New Yorker, you would probably have a field trip here. The crab had an amazing crunch and the batter was not too heavy nor too greasy.

A close up to that golden brown decadence.

This pizza was outstanding and was an absolute flavourbomb. Unlike the pasta earlier, the pizza and cheese are equal stars to the crab. The pizza dough was springy with some crispy bite and was smothered with a good helping of mozzarella. Each slice has a center that was saltier and had a more crumbly texture which would be the pecorino.  A dairy masterpiece. The pickled onions on top gave it a unique edge. With the acidity coming though, it helps cut out the intensity of the cheese and the grease from the crab, adding some depth and also cohesion between the ingredients. A good touch.

What a view!

The 24K came soon after and this was also a monster of a calzone. Not too sure if this was inspired by a Bruno Mars album, but it was indeed magic. The calzone was a gigantic pastry puff placed onto a wooden board, ready for us to devour. The waitress was kind enough to help slice it to 5 different pieces. It looked too good to eat!

A look after it has been partitioned.

This monster was stuffed to the brim with truffle spiked bechemel spouting out with each touch. And it had a full bodied flavour with an amazing texture. If you are intro creamy sauces like carbonara or alfredo, this will tick the right boxes for you.

An autopsy of the inside, Check out that pizza stretch!

The mushrooms inside gave it a unique bite and chewiness. And a few hidden olives gave the dish a slightly briney edge. Also, the crust needs to have a special mention. It was flaky yet substantial. The whole package was cooked evenly and there were no gross burnt marks. The chef really put some love into this thing.

A sweet finish.

As a sweet finish, we got a serving of creme brulee. The pudding was very smooth and decadent. It was very thick and firm with scooped up but became mush when placed into your mouth. The sugar crust was very sinful, but gravely satisfying. I guess the gym will still be open tomorrow.

Another shot of the counter. Now with the oven in eyeshot.

Leaving totally satisfied, this pizzeria is a must visit if you are a pizza lover. Even if you are not, it has an impressive menu with locally inspired pizzas like a rendang one and even vegetarian options. However, note that this place is not cheap with a pizza price range of RM36- 60-ish. The crab pizza was RM48 and the 24K was RM60. That is no small change but you really get good value for money in what you get and I might visit again in the event if there is a special event to celebrate. If you have a cheesy itch that needs to be sorted, do give this place a visit. The address is as follows:

B1, Shoppes at Four Seasons Place, 145 Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur 50450

Just follow the sign for good food and good times.
