Noodles @ OUG Seafood Pork Noodle, Taman Connaught, Cheras
The seafood pork noodles at Taman OUG in Sun Sea Kopitiam is one of the main bastions of hawker food in Cheras and after building a reputation in serving this unique noodle dish, a proper restaurant soon came not after. Also known as Restoran Hong Taoyuen, this updated version of the hawker stall establishment is based in Taman Connaught. However, it is popularly known as the "OUG Seafood Pork Noodle" shop, and as such, I will stick to that reference.
A peek inside |
Being a proper restaurant, this place was much more comfortable than its kopitiam ancestor. The interior was akin to a modern cafe and the place was less chaotic. It was nice, but I do know from some people that the rumblings of a kopitiam is part of the experience.
Dinner! |
And since the Seafood Pork Noodle was on the top of its menu, it was only apt that we get their name sake dish. This time, I picked the loh shi fan, or rat tail rice noodles. Do note that no rats were involved in the creation of this dish.
Loaded with the good stuff, and that includes liver and intestines. |
This dish was a different take to the classic porky bowl of nourishment, as it includes seafood with prawns and squid making their presence felt. The seafood does add a different flavour, as the sweetness does add more depth of field. The prawns and squid also gave a different texture profile which was really nice. However, to say it was better than the usual porky noodles, I would not think so. It was just a different experience.
Before the mess up. |
One thing I liked about this restaurant was the dry noodles had a good serving of fatty and flavourful mince. Mixing it thoroughly with the already pre-existing sauces, and you get a hearty bowl of rat tail. Again, no rats were actually involved in this dish.
An extensive menu. They do serve more than just noodles. |
In my opinion, its a decent take on a food court and hawker staple. Its a bit on the expensive side, in terms of simple fare, but RM8.50 is not too bad considering the seafood involved. And overall, I do not mind coming here again if someone would like me to join. And if you do want to invite me, the address is as follows:
