Pizza @ Pizza Slice, Sagurakucho, Shibuya, Tokyo

If you are a fan of pizza and live in Japan, chances are you may have heard rave reviews of one particular pizza by the slice place in Shibuya as of late. In particular, one specific pizzeria called Pizza Slice. Italians be warned though, as this place seems to lean more toward the American side of things. With that being said, I was still keen on trying things out.

Afternoon vibes.

The premise is relatively simple. Just pick a slice from the counter and you will be on your merry way. I came with my cousin, so we picked a slice of mushroom, classic pepperoni, and sausages with jalapeno which was the pizza of the day.  However, there are other companions you can pick from. As I feel there was a need for other stuff than just pizza, I got myself a serving of chowder. A slice range from 390 yen to 660 yen depending on the toppings. The chowder stood at 500 yen.

Mushrooms on the left, and the sausages and jalapenos on the right

Being premade at the get-go, we got out food relatively quick, save for a brief reheating in the pizza oven. Honestly speaking, this was not bad at all. My first initial bite was the sausages with jalapeno. It was pretty spicy and would probably knock an average Japanese patron out. But it was the right level of heat for me. The sausages were pretty good and definitely not the standard Weiner you get in most places here.  If you are looking for a vegetarian-friendly option, then the mushroom would be your best bet. It was relatively basic, but then again, its just mushrooms on pizza. It is a relatively safe pick if you are not in the mood for meaty toppings. But if you are, then the classic pepperoni is the one to go.

The classic!

Personally, this was the best slice we had that day. I am not sure why, as being a pizzeria, the dough, sauce, and cheese would relatively be the same. Well unless it was a Quattro Fromage, but I digress. The pepperoni slice just felt more satisfying. All the elements tend to shine and it went down very fast. And speaking of all elements, the other two slices were also done well. The dough was chewy and crunchy at the same time, and the cheese was top quality. The tomato sauce was also sweet and tangy. So, all that was expected from any decent pizza place. But it was the pepperoni slice that really stood out. Maybe it was made much later and hence fresher? I am not sure. But among all the slices it was the most memorable.

Well, you cannot win all the time.

On the other hand, the chowder was a bit of a letdown. It was generous with the ingredients and had a lot of clams and bacon. However, it tasted like something I would have easily made in 15 minutes. It may have been a better idea to have gotten another slice.

Decent condiments selection.

Still, it was a decent meal. Would I strongly recommend it? Well if you are in Shibuya, then I would say go for it. But if you are going to the area just for pizza, maybe you would like to try somewhere closer. Japan in general has very high standards in terms of pizza. So you would not be lost in finding one that will be good and is easier to reach. Having said that, it is worth a try and the atmosphere was pretty interesting. If this has piqued your interest, then the address to this establishment is as follows:
