100 yen Pastries @ Favori Bakery , Nakamichi, Kagoshima.

More baked treats galore! And with the standard price of 100 yen a pop for everything, this is some serious budget eats reckoning.

Like Daiso, but better.

Favori is a bakery chain that is unlike any other. Out of principle, I normally do not choose chains to write about as they do tend to be a bit bland and have a standard menu. However, what I like about Favori is that they have regional specialties which are really worth sinking into. And seeing that worth is about 100 yen, that is some serious cost performance.

Supposed store specialty

The first few options were non-starters. As Kagoshima is famed for its black pork, anything that has it needs to have a bite. As such, the pork curry bun and black pork sausage roll were obvious choices. They were incredibly delicious too.

Ok, now I know why its the store specialty.

The curry bun was strong in flavour, a little spicy and had a hint of sweetness. I did like the filling, although I am not too sure if the usage of black pork made this any special compared to other curry buns I had before. Still, must order.

Simple, but amazing

The sausage roll was also well done. It is definitely better than what you get from the convenience store. The bread was fluffy and had pliable yet tender texture. The sausage tasted quite premium and a little speck of black pepper added more edge to the overall morsel. Still, I may not be able to differentiate the sausage from a premium sausage you get from a good deli, but I digress. Still, unbeatable price.

Literal egg on egg on toast. Next to a pre-consumed curry bun and creme brule bun

There are other stuff to try too. And seeing that 100 yen is such a low barrier of entry, might as well try as much as possible! I had the mentaiko and egg toast, which was incredibly sinful and gravely satisfying. A little spicy, a little salty and an overall napalm rain of flavour. I recommend this a alot, but if you are the person that cannot take strong seafood flavours, then best avoid this.

Lord have mercy!

Sweet treats are also pretty good here too. I had the creme brulee bun, which was sinful on the sugary side of things. The top part of the crust had a candy layer which was sticky and crunchy, while the filling was a creamy and decadent custard.

Unassuming, but boy this was good

A sleeper hit was the blackberry jam bun. It was simple, and it tasted like how it sounded like. But it worked and it satisfied me easily. Also on top of the incredible price, sit in customers are also entitled to free coffee if you buy at least one bun! Now this is some serious bargain over here.

Another preview of the display.
Trays are empty as some of the buns are still baking.

This was a simple breakfast that quickly became an extravaganza. This shop was a serious sleeper hit and I only explored it because of that ridiculous price tag being advertised outside. Despite being so cheap, the quality of the treats here was impeccable.  Despite being a chain, I do feel that you should give a Favori a go if there is one near your city. But if you would like to try the porky specialties that Kagoshima can only offer, then the address to the branch that I visited is as follows:

2-9 Nakamachi, Kagoshima, 892-0827

What a cute looking sign!
